I had a 2015 1gr-fe that blew up at 94k. No engine is bulletproof. Not even toyota.

Growing up our neighbors had a beetle and a square back wagon. They were cool cars. I took many rides in them to the lake during the summer to go swimming.

 

Interesting "fact" about the Subaru's. My son has a 2006 Legacy that he daily drives with a little over 230K on it so far and it runs perfect.

Having been in the business for many years, in my opinion the vast majority of mechanical failures are directly due to either poor maintenance, poor driving habits, or both. How many times do you see some idiot racing up to a stop sign or light and then slam on the brakes? When they leave they floor it only to repeat the process at the next light or stop sign. I get twice the mileage out of my brakes and tires than most get because I don't rabbit away from a stop and I start to slow down a little early before the last second.

I regularly buy old cars with bad engines or transmissions and repair or replace them and then flip the vehicle. Every single engine that I have torn down that died early showed signs of poor maintenance. Most were so sludged up from lack of oil changes and overheating that it is a wonder that they went as long as they did.

As for the OP, the fact that he hasn't been back to answer some of the questions posed on this thread tells me that this might very well be a troll post. My questions would be on the order of how did he drive the vehicle and what was the maintenance schedule? I have seen too many of the 3.5 motors with well in excess of 110K on them to believe that they are a ticking time bomb.

 

Especially w/ a CVT transmission. Those Crosstreks can barely get up and over softball-sized rocks

 

I know and my brother keeps taking about Nissan rogue. I keep sending YouTube videos on broken CVT's

 

Yep, i had my subaru short block replaced after a class action lawsuit. someone totaled the car 8k miles after but looked like the oil consumption was fixed

Owned New and low oil lights every 3k miles after oil changes (5k mile oil change) Dealership told me it was normal to consume that oil

 

They blow up too.

 

Subaru isn't that bad. I had two of them. My mom had 2 as well. I take care of my cars. Her well she didn't so much. She worked a delivery job using her cars and was always coming to me saying the engine sounds funny and such. Many times I found little or no oil on the dip stick.
I could drive my subie across several states. I would not have trusted hers that far. Yes Subaru engines like to consume some oil and some were known for problems like valve cover gasket failure.
Anything is going to be less reliable if you beat it and don't take responsibility for maintenance just like you said.

 

His old engine consumed so much oil that it nuked the cats. I think Subaru is like the Japanese version of Volkswagen, they sell on an image that one is better off leasing their junk

 

subaru isnt that bad? Like i traded it in at 90k miles and didnt have a problem or it lasted 250k miles? because there is a difference.

 

One of mine had 225k on it when I Traded it the other 95k and still ran well just wanted something else.
The ones my mom drove those were pits of dispare.

 

Looks like a coolant hose ruptured. Likely overheated from that. NEXT!

 

I think they make more pits of dispare than other manufacturers but they sell a good urban out doors image and have their cult following that is mostly propped up by the LGBTQ advertising and the rally car boy thing.

That is true some are not made as well I'd say the newer ones more so. The one I had and traded in at 225k was still a runner but it was a 90 legacy. The outback was a 2003 and while I didn't have much trouble with it it did have shitty rattles in the exhaust you could never fix. Other family extended family that had that model swore them off after they blow head gaskets. Guess I was more lucky than some.

LGBT is a fan of them I realize that. Lesbians love them Foresters.

 

I’ll take a subaru over a domestic car any day. I would put them 3rd behind Honda and Toyota in terms of quality from the Japanese manufactures, easily better than Nissan. Not to mention they have the best AWD system in the business. Their racing heritage is nothing to scoff at, it’s really improved their vehicles, rally racing has spurred so much development in terms of suspension design and making high performance motors. Subaru is a case study in any marketing class as well, they had the foresight to advertise to the lgbt groups at a time when they weren’t on anybody’s radar and it paid off. Just like Ford and Chevy’s appeal to the red necks. At the end of the day solid vehicles, not as reliable at Toyota but a hell of a lot more fun and engaging to drive than most Toyota’s.

 

Believe it or not, Tacoma's, 4 Runners, FJ's, etc... as well...
