Has anyone had problems with the 2.7 engine? My son bought a 1997 5 or 6 years ago with the 2.7. The truck had been hit in the rear so it was going to be a project for "us" he says. So one of us did put another bed on and paint it "resulting in a rebuilt title". He complained about the engine but there was no definite problem to address. With something less than 100,000 mile on it the engine locked up. Oil was very clean when bought and was changed regularly. Moisture was evident in the crankcase but no real water to speak of. Had an employee of a Toyota dealership check it out. He reported Toyota intended to replace the engine until sn did show a rebuild. Replaced the engine myself with same 2.7 with fewer miles and 10,000 miles later the balancing shaft bearings are gone. So I call the nearest dealer and they don't even know what balancing shaft bearings are to order them. Anyone had an issue with the 2.7 similar to this?

It was a great engine while it lasted. Toyota owners who rode in it ask what engine it had if only familiar with the 22 series. The torque increase off-road was very evident. Been driving almost 40 years and this is the 2nd engine to my loose. 1st was a chevy 2.8 if that tells you anything.
