    Oh I've seen it happen.

Worst was my last job at a very cruel company. Set a select few layoffs for a Friday. One of the targeted people had filed for some sort of staycation that day and they forgot she did. So she got CALLED IN then when she got there, HR in the office up front caught her in the hallway and was like "oh hey, can I talk to you real quick?" and did the hatchet job. Ruthless. To add insult to injury, our sales manager was her boss, and really didn't like her. Literally SKIPPED over to her cube and just did the arm sweep of stuff into an empty box, then whisked it away whistling. He was so cold blooded, hella glad he wasn't my boss.

"Hey, Sandy*. How's it goin'? If you could come in on your day off so we can fire you, that'd be greaaaat."

    That fucking sucks.

Pretty sure it was either Susan or Wendy. Yeah, blows big time, but was hardly surprising for that company. What do you expect for stock ticker: PCP?

I've had that kind of boss (GM) once..

Many years ago, I requested Christmas week off FIVE months in advance and was told it was cleared by management. So I proceeded with my plans and purchased my plane tickets and hotel reservations.

Fast forward to Christmas Eve, as I'm laying on a beach in Maui, my GM shoots me a text. He's asking where I am. He states "he never approved any time off" and if I didn't show up to work today I would be deemed a no call no show". As I'm arguing with that guy, I finally realize what's going on, the fucker lied about me being cleared for vacation. He did this shit on purpose because he never liked me and wanted me out.

After going back and forth for a day or so, I got to the point where I knew I wasn't going to win and decided to try and happily finish my family Christmas vacation in hawaii.

A week later after I got back from vacation, I learned he already had the paperwork filled out and sent to HR. It stated that I quit my job, just to make sure I couldn't file for unemployment. I couldn't believe it, I never knew this jerk hated me that much. There was basically nothing I could do, he had everything planned out perfectly. Gnarly.

6 months later he was fired for embezzlement and sexual harassment and I was hired back by the new management

Long story short, Mike was an absolute asshole and got what he deserved. :D

Yeah, at least my old job was ruthless in the open. I couldn't tolerate someone conniving in the shadows like that though.
