We/I had cheeseburgers tonight. I had the romaine lettuce bun, and I might as well have been eating wings. My fingers were trashed!

Yea, I tried that once too! Quickly surrendered to eating burgers open-face. Fork and knife for me...

You guys think its Keto that makes you lose weight or the fact you're probably in a calorie deficit?

Definitely not a calorie deficit. I eat plenty too. Just cut down or eliminate foods that your body easily converts to fat.
Eating plenty of calories that your body readily burns.

This wasn't too bad for chocolate fix. A very different texture though that kind of reminded me of malt-o-meal. 20210206_112223.jpg

    Good Morning

Finally found my way here. Noticed the Birch Benders posts and thought I would share my prized low carb Belgium waffle recipe. It makes two large or three small.

Total carbs for mix is 16.7
2 large = 8.4 per waffle with approximately 2.5 grams of fiber if you calculate net carbs
    3 small = 5.6 with 1.6 grams of fiber

    Belgium Waffle Recipe

In a gallon ziplock bag mix:

    1/2 cup Almond flour

    1 tablespoon Coconut flour

    1 scoop Isopure protein powder

    2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 tablespoons powdered monkfruit erythritol or swerve

    1 tablespoon granular monkfruit erythritol

    1/2 teaspoon xanthum gum

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    Seal bag shake to mix

    Add:

    1/4 cup olive oil

    1 egg

    1/2 cup almond milk

    Mix well until smooth

Cut tip and squeeze onto waffle iron

    Enjoy...Stay Well

Fat storage is a part of excessive calories. Fat is made from excessive calories. If we are talking about eating a low fat diet, fat typically does have twice the calories a healthy carb would. The only way to lose weight is to be in caloric deficit, specifically about 200 calories under your maintainence calories. To avoid dirty bulking, I typically shoot for about 200 calories over limit with a clean diet during cycle.

I give this some thought after what @frenchee posted. One thing for certain that I seen as a negative was when I got down to 175 pounds, I was starting to get bothersome leg cramps.
I want to get back down to maybe 190 or so then try to moderate my calorie intake.

I hear what you are saying however for some of us this is a necessary lifestyle change. Not a crazy fad. Mine came out of medical necessity. Personally speaking I was hit with a thyroid related autoimmune disease. Treatment for this disease pushed me into a diabetic state. I had choices...insulin or management. I chose management. With guidance and a lot of research I developed a carb sensible (Not Keto) lifestyle. 20 total grams per meal 10 total grams per snack works well for me. I no longer eat products made from flours that are made from grains. No sugar or sugary snacks. I have become proficient at baking with nut based flours and use monkfruit, erythritol, stevia, or allulose as sweeteners. I anchor all carbs with fat and fiber as this slows down the rate that they are absorbed into my body. I have been on this journey for 3 years. Happy to say my A1C is no longer at 7 but at a healthy 5.1, my weight dropped from 230 to 185, and all my labs have remained normal including cholesterol. While excess calories do typically lean toward storing excess fat, with this lifestyle adjustment, my body has become more efficient at burning those calories. That is not to say that I can just lay around and do nothing. Water and exercise are critical and Covid has been a challenge. But I feel better, have more energy, and am truly healthier by following through with this change.

This would be an awesome attainment for me. I am at a similar beginning weight now, and would like to get to your weight. My biggest hinderance right now is arthritis, and that it is prohibitive to getting the exercise I need to help burn the calories and fat.

I dont think we should derive this thread into a macro vs Keto was just curious about it!
I personally think macro is more sustainable but there are health reasons people cant eat carb. I'll keep popping in here to check out the recipes. Very creative.
