I’m getting tires before wheels and have ordered wrangler duratracs in a 285/75r16 and am wondering if they will fit even though they say acceptable rim width for the tire is 7.5”-10” and the stock or wheels are 7”

Yes. People have fit 12.5” tires on 7” wheels.

The real question is how much rubbing you’ll have with those new tires.

That’s fantastic news! 1.25” spidertrax spacers were delivered today and I’ll be trimming plastic and doing a CMC pretty soon the plates are in the mail. In the meantime I got the TRD OR vinyls from @PikestacoSister so I wanted to black them out until I can afford the method 701s.

No I lifted it with bilstein 6112/5160 and an icon AAL. I got about 2” in the rear and 2 1/2” in the front. Plus cab mount chop and plastic trimming.

They will mount, but not exactly a perfect. They won't sit on rim properly and you are likely to get wear in the middle of the tire because they are pinched. I wouldn't plan on running them long because you will really shorten the life of the tires.

Don't ya love how folks throw out acronyms like everyone on the planet knows exactly what they represent?
No wonder they get very few responses.

I’m confused now. Yes or no was all I was asking and plan to get new wheels in a few months.

That’s why you gotta take stuff with a grain of salt. Lots of bad info out there.

For comparison. I am running a 12.5 on an 8” whee and I don’t have issues or unusual tire wear as implied above.

It’s called a poor mans beadlock.

It’s not a daily drive but used exclusively for camping and road trips or whenever I need a truck. I run two sets of tires throughout the year. Each have about 10,000 miles on them currently. Truck has about 45k miles total. I even mounted the 12.5s myself.

    Stock, 4WD, Access Cab, White,
Tire manufacturers specify a rim width for very specific reasons.

Sure, you can mount the tire. But, what is being given up in tire life, performance, traction, load capacity, warranty......

Frankly, I think your rim is too narrow for that tire. Yeah, it'll mount, but........its not within the limits of the tire.

Seriously, instead of asking a stupid question like that, when you clearly have zero tire knowledge, maybe you should start by asking why so maybe you could learn something.

    1. The bead won't set properly on the rim if the sidewall can not fully extend. As you can see from this picture, there is a specific taper to the bead that matches the rim of the wheel.

Now when you pull that in because your tire is it too wide, that bead won't set properly on the wheel. Can you see the gap? That is what is happening and you need full bead contact with your rim. That is why they have ranges of wheel widths that a tire can safely be mounted on. If it doesn't sit flush on the rim, it won't seal properly. Not saying it won't seal, but it won't sea properly.

    2. If you do get it to seal, you will pinch the sidewall which causes the tire to crown. This is simple physics. When the sidewall can't properly expand, you narrow the section width which cause the tire to crown. Something has to give and it will cause the center of the tread to lift. Just like when you squeeze a flat piece of metal on the ends.

I really hope you consider removing your post because your tire knowledge seems to really be lacking and your ignorance is very apparent.

Do you have any real world experience or you just pull everything off the internet.

Still waiting. Have your never heard of poor mans beadlock? Do you not understand based on real world experience why it's called this?

I can tell you this, I have personal first hand experience with poor mans beadlock. I also have personal experience mounting my own tires and on wheels to narrow for the tire. I can tell you exactly how the tire beads are fitting in my wheels.

I have also chalk tested my tires and there is zero tire crown.

The difference is I have real world experience with tires, fitment, mounting them, etc while you pulled some random stuff off the internet, yet I am ignorant? Just ignore all those 285's on stock wheel threads.

OP you can run a forum search for folks running 285 on stock 7" wheels. The issue you will find is not tire to wheel fitment but rubbing issues with the UCA and stuff.
