With the market on Tacoma's as they are, who here has recently traded an earlier 3rd gen for a 20 or 21? How much did it cost to do so?

Wouldn't mind trading my '17 for a newer model, considering the values of these things seem to be higher than it was when I bought it in 2017!

I just sold my '20 for more than I bought it for including the upgrades and after driving it for 18 months (10K miles). I'm not jumping in to another truck yet.

From someone with experience, I'd forgo a first year Ford model.

I traded my 2017 in September. Bought new in May of 2017 for $36k out the door. Traded it for a 2020 and got $30.5k for it. Couldn't pass that opportunity up. No dealer markup, paid MSRP, didn't even pay for window tint or nitrogen in the tires.

The only problem is you'll make out great on the sale but then get screwed buying a new one because demand is so high, low inventory etc.

That is true, I had a Toyota dealer offer me a 21 off-road for $37k with an MSRP of $39k, I haven't tried to talk them down yet. Might try and see how low they go but I doubt they budge much.

i got the first year 2011 5.0 Mustang GT premium and loved it.. although i traded it for a more practical vehicle and now ended up with this first year 3rd gen tacoma and love it...no issues but if i go the route of new bronco which i am seriously entertaining, i will wait and you can't get them now until 2022.

You're making the assumption people have to take a loan.

I usually keep my vehicles 10+ years or more. I also haven't found a color I like more than Quicksand.

statistically most people take a loan out or lease a vehicle. if you don't have a payment thats the best way to go...you assumed i was assuming...lol

Everyone gets lucky sometimes with a Ford. Toyota is and always has been solid. I was unfortunate enough to get the first year Focus RS with the head gasket issue. What was worse was taking it to the dealer and having it sit there for a month while the a-hole mechanic walked all over the splash shield, broke air cooling ducts, and returned the car with a discolored engine coolant reservoir. Dealer tried to tell me that's how Ford told them it had to be done ignoring the fact that I had the full dealer TSB docs and examples of other cars from the RS forum that didn't get their car back with a discolored reservoir. After a fight I got them to replace the cheap plastic reservoir (had to get Ford corporate involved for the dealer to start kissing my ass) and the next time I went to change the oil and got under the car I found oil all over the place. That was the last straw. Traded it in at a significant loss with only 13k miles on it. Loved that car but my personal experience with one of their highly touted "special" models was horrible.

In contrast, my Taco and Longo Toyota have been a dream to deal with. Zero issues with the truck and service at Longo has been a pleasure when needed.

I would like the adaptive cruise control but not enough to trade. If they would add air conditioned seats I would likely trade.

I traded my 2016 2WD sport a few months ago for a 2021 pro in lunar lock. I got real lucky. The dealership I hit had a pro in allocation and gave it to me for straight MSRP which came to around 52 with transport and fees. Ordered early Nov and got it mid Dec.

I just traded a 2017 F250 for a 2020 Tacoma. The 250 never saw the dealership, in 3.5 years except for oil changes. I also own a 2015 Mustang GT that has never had anything but oil changes either. I've owned 7 Ford vehicles and I will admit that their quality went down in the 90's, early 2000's but these last 2 have been stellar. I've also owned 6 or 7 Toyotas, and own 3 currently, and while they are great vehicles, I have not found them to be significantly more reliable than other makes. People rag on VW's for poor reliability but I love them. The ones I have owned have been great vehicles. The TDI scandal crushed their values so they're cheap to buy but you don't get much for them either. Have a '17 Golf I don't really need but won't part with such a good car for what little I can get for it.

I leased the Tacoma because the new Bronco got delayed again in December. I want a 2 door with the manual trans, so probably not available until late 2021 at the earliest.
