Exactly. To be clear, I've never let my trucks fuel mileage be a determining factor on if I keep and enjoy or sell a vehicle.

I agree with you on that one day the dream would be a V8 Tacoma but we both know that's never happening.

Coming out the gate with a stock truck, I did my research and saw 18-22 quoted for the truck I was buying by the manufacturer. I start rolling around town and only ever saw those numbers on a steep downhill and only for a brief moment. Definitely not an average.

I guess maybe that was my point of contention... was seeing 3 to 8 miles less than what was quoted? I realize the downfall in using those figures but still.

In other news... Flashed the ECU and am now WAYY closer to those numbers, if not spot on. Haven't tested much. Flash the ECU!!

The reason I got a Taco, and traded in my 2.7L 2018 F150, was I wanted a truck I knew would still be around at 300K. I KNEW what the MPG was way before I bought it, so it would be extremely foolish of me to complain about something I knew prior to buying it.. that is just my thoughts.

I have gotten 19-21 before but usually only if it's mostly long stretches of no stop and go. It really depends on terrain, stop and go, stop signs, traffic lights, etc etc etc. There are so many factors that play into mpg that it's hard to compare.

This was just captured the other day for another thread.. was not even trying. This is with lift, and 285 tires in WA state so hilly roads:

I was not able to capture the one prior to this that had over 160 miles on it, but got this after a trip to store:

As long as you live in a dry climate or Toyota continues to replace the rotted frames you will have no problem getting 300k out of a Taco. You did your research before buying...Smart. Lots of new guys fall in love with the looks and that is it. Sold. Then they find out it rides like a truck and the mileage isn't all that great, stuff they should have found out before signing on the dotted line ;-)

Agree. Nobody buys a truck, (At least they shouldn't) thinking you're gonna get 'Prius' mileage. If you do, a truck ain't for you.
There's only so much actual 'energy' you can squeeze out of a gallon of gas. ;)

From the research I did on frame issues (again prior to my purchase) it seems Toyota has changed how they coat the frame now ALSO that it was being caused by areas that used chemicals to melt snow on roads. I live in WA, we get a shit ton of rain however of all the people I know here that have Tacoma's never heard of one with frame issues, we do not use chemicals on our roads.

Which is a terrible argument when in this thread alone it's been noted V8s get similar milage as the Tacoma V6 and applying a tune to this same engine significantly increases the mileage. I agree there is only so much energy you can get from gas, but that amount is more than a stock Tacoma produces.

A running joke in the LC world. We average 10-13 mpg in our 80 series rigs...

Yeah, I don't get it...maybe something people might want to look at before they purchase? But once you own it, it is what it is. Get in, gas up, drive where you need to go.

Yes... Nobody is ever in a hurry to get to the MIL's house. Or the dentist knowing you need a root-canal.

Sunday driving on secondary roads, 45-60 mph, I can push the number up to 26 or so.
Steady highway running, cruise at 70 and AC on ends up at just about 21.

Truck is completely stock, the only extras I carry are a flashlight, gloves and jumper cables.
I have a pretty light foot -- best not to be speeding when driving a bright orange truck. ;)

Using cruise control always helps with MPG especially on the highway.
