Not hard with turbo's, Ford's EcoBoost is either Eco or Boost.. you do not get both.

It was a Mitsubishi Evo IX running 30psi of boost, high lift cams, and E85. It was a very entertaining 13mpg at least.

20 years ago a AWD Rav4 got 21 mpg and a Tacoma 4x4 got 16. Now you can get a AWD Rav4 hybrid that gets 40 mpg and the new Tacomas are barely breaking 20.

Meanwhile, a new 4x4 Silverado gasser gets 20 mpg combined, and the oil burner gets 25.

In spite of the fact that "it's a truck" the Tacoma's mpg is really not where it should be.

Rav 4 owners arent Tacoma owners. Id be willing to bet the vast majority of Taco owners dont care about what gas mileage it gets.

Agree, and so Toyota doesn't bother to put any R&D dollars into making it better on the Tacoma. Except their half assed attempt with the new 6 speed auto transmission. And we know how that went.

My average hangs between 15-16 with a daily mix of surface streets and highway to and from work. If the way to get 20+ is driving 55 on the highway........I'll never see that day......

Toyota is not trying to get Tacoma to 40MPG, they are building a truck that will not break down. The Tacoma is not marketed as a "Family" car, it is geared towards adventurers and utility work, Toyota has a very strong philosophy they follow on design and build.

    My 1st 4X4, a 1968 IH Scout, 392 V8. I started driving in 1974, but bought this used in 1976.

    img004.jpg

    My 1st truck, a 1975 Jeep bought used in 1978, 360 V8.

    img007.jpg

Both of those got 6-7 MPG around town, about 11 MPG hwy. Factored for inflation gas was about $4/gallon. Quit yer whinin about fuel mileage when just about any modern truck will get double the fuel mileage, at 1/2 the fuel prices after calculated for inflation. I managed to keep gas in these while working part time at about $2-$3/hour and going to college.

I get 14mpg in the winter with a camper in the bed. When its really bad it dropes to 11, so yeah MPG is not good.

MPG numbers at the Chicago show?

This thread title was found on the very first page of the 3rd gen section, from Feb 11. 2015. The bitching began before the truck was even released.

It's been cold here since I got mine in December so I remote start it and let it warm up for a few minutes. With the warmup, driving short trips around town I get about 15-16mpg. This is about a worst case scenario for me.

When I go to my country place it is 65 miles of mostly two lane 55mph roads with some hills and and sections of 65mph highway. Both trips I've made so far I got 22.5mpg.

My truck is all stock including tires/wheels etc. I expect to improve on the numbers when warmer weather gets here and they get rid of the winter blend fuel.

All the numbers above are based on the what the truck indicates on the computer not hand calculated.
