currently it has 31x10.5/R15's on it, which are really 255/80/R15. I put the tires next to each other and they're the same width, but the newer, bigger tire is about an inch taller. I know the speedo will be off (don't care), but will the tire bang into my suspension?!

I think 265/70/R16 is my stock tire size as well but this pic is 31x10.5/R15's on old 4runner alloys...they fit perfect!

Those will fit fine, i have 265/70/17 on my stock original suspension tacoma prerunner and it works. You probably won't even rub at full crank!

Like with anything, there's no 100% guarantee, but I'm almost certain you'd be fine running what is the stock size tire/wheel on the newer generation 1st gen tacos.

That said, your unknown factor here is your wheels. If you run a wider rim, or something with less backspacing than stock, you cna run into problems. But if you have some toyota 16" wheels, you should be fine.

Running 265/75R16s, no lift. Slight rubbing on mudflaps at full turn, but then again the flaps are from a 1st gen 4runner and are more flexible than the stock plastic ones.

It will fit with no issues. I’ve had 265/70/16 on mine for years. I’m gonna move up to 265/75/16 soon

Absolutely. 265/70R16 is what I am running. Shouldn't be a problem running into suspension or frame as long as you have an acceptable wheel offset.

I think alot of it has to do with the sag in the old suspension. I tried to mount a 265/70r16 on the stock alloy when i first got my truck and it rubbed like crazy! The tire dealer mounted it, then we dropped the rig and cranked the wheels from side to side. So I ended up going with a 245/75r16. It comes in at 31.49" tall and 9.4" wide. Truck handled great and gave it plenty of power and great braking.

You might have your tire dealer mount up some different options for you.

I use this site when shopping for tires... it's worked spot on for me.

I'm honestly confused why this is still asked?

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=31-10.5r15-245-75r16
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=265-70r16-245-75r16

265/70-16 = 31x10.5x15 = 245/75-16 for outside diameter (nominally a 31" tire, even a 31x is not truly a 31) and all 3 are stock tire sizes on a Tacoma 4wd/PreRunner (save for those 95-01 gems out there  )

as @jbrandt mentioned if you have anything other than "stock" Tacoma wheels you may rub. If you have stock wheels and rub there is something wrong with your suspension and needs checked out.

the only advantage I can see of the 245/75 is a little less "rolling resistance" which is why the 2nd Gen started coming with those on SR5 models.

Okay, Frizzman, so you're saying that if I have a 1998 Tacoma 4x4, I can swap out the 15" rims for 16" stock rims from a 2nd Gen Tacoma and mount 265/70r16 tires on them and I'll be okay, with no rubbing, etc.)

"stock" yes. that is key. any larger and you will definitely rub due to backspacing on the 2nd/3rd gen rims, heck even first gen you would rub the frame at some point with larger tires

Thanks, frizzman. The wheels I'm buying are stock, so hopefully it all works!
