I have a 3rd gen tacoma 2018 still under factory warranty. It was in a front accident that busted headlight and grill etc. The piston head exploded in the cylinder and they are saying its not warranty work. Call corporate and they said there is nothing they can do all they are is a 3rd party partner and cannot make them do it.

What are my next steps or who do I contact to get them to honor their warranty. Certainly almost a year later the accident didn't cause the internals of the motor to fail when its mainly cosmetic damage

EDIT: My dealer is in Alabama and I'm currently in Texas and have been stuck here since COVID.

All that happened at the same time? Or the cylinder part happened later?

Ask to talk to a supervisor and ask how will a grill and headlight damage impact the piston a year later . Go to another dealer

Warranties don't cover damage from accidents... Pretty much ever. That's what insurance is for.

Did you buy the truck new?
Did you buy an extended warranty?
What mods are on the truck?
The date of the accident and mileage?
The date of the engine failure and mileage?
    Which cylinder?
Has someone taken the head off?

What is the dealers explanation of why they won't cover it? Got to give a little more info here.

Yes, I’ve never seen a warranty denied that didn’t state why it was denied.
A piston “exploding” in a cylinder is a big deal. And to deny warranty with out explanation is out right ludicrous.

There has to be a reason it’s getting denied.

I thought of this too, but OP says “Still under factory warranty”
    I assume so?

I would assume 60k for powertrain.

    From Toyota’s site.

    Powertrain Coverage
    60 months/60,000 miles (engine, transmission/transaxle, front-wheel-drive system, rear-wheel drive, seatbelts and airbags).

How long a time between the front end accident and the head exploding. I kind of infer it was a year later. If they state the head issue is a result of the accident; maybe the insurance will pick it up. But you got to get the dealer to put that in writing before you go to the insurance.

Just isn’t enough information to help OP as of now.
No way to recommend what steps to take to pursue the warranty.

We need to know why the warranty was denied?

Can you please re-write your original post??

it sounded like the accidents caused your piston to explode. I’m sorry, I’m gonna be honest, not even sure of your exact question. Would like to help if possible

I would guess that it is an extended warranty if Toyota is saying it is a 3rd party. If it is a powertrain warranty then Toyota would have to show that the accident contributed to the failure. A font end collision that busted the radiator and over heated the motor would certainly void the warranty. Of course they would have to prove it which wouldn't be easy.
