I realize that I drive a truck so I don’t expect Prius-ish MPG’s and I have no problem with that. My beef is that a lot of people on this forum with similar models and options as mine, regularly get fuel mileage numbers that I have never even come close to getting at my best (and yes, i’ve attempted driving like a granny and changing other things on my truck)
Makes me wonder if somethings could be different between trucks right out of the factory....

I always though 3rd gen taco gets good gas mileage for a midsize. I get advertised or better mpgs with 265/70/17 Load C KO2s. Whats there to complain about?

Just like radio waves (I use this as I do networking and have to explain ALL the time why one phone can receive solid connection and another cannot in the exact same spot) EVERYTHING will affect your MPG: Type of gas, additives, temp, weather, type of tire, manufacture of tire, air pressure, altitude, driving preference, weight in truck, solar flare activity, moon cycle... ok the last two might not but you get the point.

No two trucks are exact with the exact same conditions, so no two trucks will get the exact MPG.

cold weather gas, driving in snow = rolling resistance, people idling longer and there are people who dont understand that their 3 mile drive to work will never get 20 mpg

This will be an unpopular answer, but some of the bitching is derived from how piss poor their personal finances are. If a drop of a few MPG is hurting your finances it's time for you to sell the truck and get something a little more thrifty on gas. It's safe to say we're going to see more of these threads as gas prices rise.

I'm getting 18-19 mpg on the new Pro. Our 2019 Tundra got 16-17. An older 1997 Tacoma with 22RE got 16-17. Our 2006 Tacoma V6 got 18-22. Our 2015 Land Cruiser got 16-18. Our 2014 4Runner got 17-19. My conclusion from all this is that Toyota trucks get reasonable mileage for trucks, but that's only my opinion.

i wont be too surprised to see 4/gal in a few months the only way to push the green solar agenda is to make the cost comparable to Price per barrel of oil.

My first Toy got 14MPG no matter what I did to better the mileage. Now I'm anywhere from 17.5 to 19 on trips loaded down so I think that's really good. I drove a 2.7 Eco Ford for work and they are terrible if you load them or pull something with them. I was around 16-18mpg stock and lower if I loaded it. While I'm happy with the MPG on this truck, I bought a Taco to access places I couldn't get the big trucks in, and for the reliability.

I have a good understanding of this and you’re totally right. I would never expect to get the exact same MPG as other stock, similarly equipped trucks. I would expect them to be in the same ballpark though, and IMO, some are not......

By 12 years yeah. I may have seen some leaded race gas at the drag strips/dirt tracks when I was younger but I wouldnt testify to that.

I only complain about MPGs because I havent found the right forum where I could go complain about my home's thermostat instead.

Hate to admit this, but I started pumping gas when you could get 5 gallons for $1 and there were no automatic shutoff nozzles. Cam2 hadn't hit the race circuit yet. Best octane was Sunoco 260. American (Amoco) had the only 'unleaded' gasoline and folks called it white gas - was perfect for lanterns and camp stoves.

Only time my 4.7 tundra got 17 mpg was in the summer while not exceeding 65 mph....otherwise it was 10-13 mpg.
