Good evenin yall! Been super busy at work lately so havent had much time to do truck things, bur got to a few today. Reinstalled the camper on the truck, got a turn down for my aftermarket catback installed, and started learning how to stick weld today. The turn down tip was a real pain in the rear to get on the end of the piping. I had to heat it up several times and then hammer it on with a wood block little by little. I had to use so much force to get it on that id be surprised if it came off but i put a clamp on it and hit it with the impact for good measure. Hopefully that can hold together until i can learn how to tig and weld it all together

Good morning yall. Boss man chewed my ass this morning for no justifiable reason, so i left work and took 3/4 day vacation to clear my mind. Im going to try to weld up a piece of piping to fit my TRD catback for my v6 to the 4 banger. Im gonna cut off the flange off the stock catback and then weld that to a piece of 2.5” tubing and then put a v-band flange on the other end to mate up to the catback inlet.

Here are a few shots of learning/experimenting with TIG welding. On the stainless piping, the first pass was on the right with way too much filler wire. The second pass on the right i used hardly any filler and instead fusion welded most of it and just kept the filler ready in case it started to pull apart. Theyre definitely not the prettiest welds, but i have very little time in this thus far so im pretty happy with how quickly ive picked it up. Definitely my new hobby now

    Howdy Bill, what’s good brother?

It has definitely been challenging and time consuming but i really enjoy it. You should definitely give it a go dude, there are some good welders out there for pretty reasonable.

Turn down welded on and also welded on the joint at the inlet of the first muffler so i got two clamps removed. The mufflers are notched so i just filled that in the best i could. The rest will have to wait until the weekend. Also forgot to mention, the TRD catback for the v6 is too long so i will be cutting down the midpipe and adding a v-band and then i'll just make an extension for my borla catback to be able to mate up to the midpipe again. I didnt want to take off the s/c, header, and midpipe to be able to get it all to fit, so that will probably be a weekend project as well

What kind are you looking at? I think craigslist would be a good place to find a nice used machine that would otherwise be out of my budget

That would be useful for quite a few more things. I'd like to learn that now too, it's hard for me to make stick welds look good

I hear you there man, these short days don't do it for me either. Ready for the spring/summer to get here!
