I think there’s gonna be more sanctions in addition to a one week delay in SN9.

From the FAA regarding SN8 - “Prior to the Starship SN8 test launch in December 2020, SpaceX sought a waiver to exceed the maximum public risk allowed by federal safety regulations. After the FAA denied the request, SpaceX proceeded with the flight.”

Are the evacuations for Boca Chica mandatory? I know if I lived there and was being forced by the government and a private company to evacuate my home so they can test ways to make more money I would be pissed off. Just my opinion but SpaceX should've built their test facility somewhere else without a nearby town. Launch approvals should be denied on the basis that it's just wrong to force people to leave their homes.

I think they are mandatory and another tactic to pressure them to sell out. SpX is working in conjunction w the Sheriff’s Dept to secure the roads, evacuate the beach and village.

I think there’s 10 people comprising an unknown number of households left. There are articles out there describing low ball offers and dubious tactics to get them to sell.

Like I said earlier, it’s untenable. I think once SpX gets their review for Starship operations approved, the next step will be for taking the properties by imminent domain.

They are mandatory evacuations, however iirc they agreed to those conditions before Spacex moved in. At the time they were targeting around 12 launches a year. Since then their plans have changed and they intend to do far more launches. The offers to buy out people were to simplify things for all parties involved. Spacex needs to insure all residents have left and nobody remains in the danger zone for every launch. By buying them out, they have fewer possibilities that they will miss someone when they do the evacuations that the residents agreed to when spacex first moved in. The offers themselves were decent. 3X market value + cost of moving. So far there is no sign that they will be forced out, only that those that remained will be inconvenienced more often as launch frequency increases. Then again as they build their sea launch platforms that inconvenience will probably decrease.

As for building their facility somewhere else, that's easier said than done. Getting to space is very difficult. Landing a rocket is even more difficult and usually involves single digit margins. A move of 50-100 miles can literally be the difference between being capable of landing a rocket and not.

Exactly. I'm glad we don't see RUDs on the ground.

I get all of that, but it's still not right. Just because a neighboring business moves in doesn't mean your right to live in and enjoy your property should be taken away by the government solely for the benefit of a private company. There are plenty of other areas that can be used for orbital launches that don't have people living in close proximity already.
