Awesome! Got any pics/details on your heater setup? Did you hard mount it or go for the more mobile mount in a box setup?

I've got a 2kw heater and harbor freight pelican case knockoff in the garage ready to get assembled and setup for my camper. I just haven't been super motivated lately.

I put it in a toolbox, but need a bigger one that can hold the small tank and heater. Same it’s a 2kw version, pretty cool little addition for sure! Harbor Freight knockoffs seem like a really good option.

Yeah it seems to fit pretty well in their x-large case, There should be room to store the duct hose in there during transit. I grabbed mine a few weeks ago when they were on sale for $29 I'm pretty much ripping off this design:
    https://planarheaters.com/product/portable-diesel-air-heater-planar-2d-12/

I ordered a 5L tank tank but it was alittle small to mount on the side so I'm returning it and have a 7L on the way.

Planning a simple run up to Brown's Camp for Saturday. I don't have any traction boards yet or a winch, but have basic recovery tools (shovel, recovery strap, etc). If my son is off work, he'll be coming up with me in his '97 Taco (completely stock with BFG AT KOs). So, obviously nothing too serious.

Conditions look to be wet, and 42F at the highway, probably cold and snowy up higher.

My daughter was up there today at Roger's in her Rav4. Said there was about a foot of snow in the parking lot. It was puppy snow training day.

Not sure when exactly I plan to run up there, as it is only ~25 mins from my house.
If anyone else is interested, we can make a better plan.

I’m interested- it’s about an hour from my house. How does 10:30 or 11 sound?

Sounds like a reasonable time frame to me. We can meet at the Shell station on Hwy 6 at 10:30, and wait around till 11 for any stragglers. They sell ORV permits there. There is usually ample parking on the East side of the store if more folks want to join us.

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/HEyQvLkstgRZyCXq6

Then at 11ish we shoot for Rogers Camp by 11:20. Get a game plan and start pushing some snow.

Figured I would add this group to my watched threads. I've been around since dirt was invented and currently in my 10th Toyota ('79, '85, '92, '93 (4Runner), '96, '96 (4Runner), '05, '17. Near 200k already on the '17.

Too late to the game on that one man! My fiancée cashed hers out last week when it spiked and turned $35 into $900 on that deal.

She was kicking herself for not buying more when she got it months ago. She had but $100 each into several cryptos but only $35 on DOGE

Anyone on this thread work with a CNC machine?? I was going to have my buddy cut a couple things out for me but he just put in how two week notice and won’t have a CNC at how new job.

Looking to get a tailgate panel and roof rack cut out.

No CNC but I managed to make my roof rack with a chop saw and drill press/step bit if you’re out of options lol. Not the prettiest but also not the ugliest.

I’m not totally out of options yet. I have the cad file for the rack that I just need cut out. I might go a different way for the tailgate plate.

TONS of CNC shops in the Portland Metro area so if you're serious you should have plenty of options. The big catch is how much you're willing to pay? Alot of shops tend to quote consumer/1 off jobs high because they don't want to deal with it. Without a personal hookup there's no way you're going to get a trade some beer for the work kinda deal.

Is your motivation to save money or are you trying to do something special/extra custom?

From my experience with CNC quotes (I'm an R&D mechanical engineer so I get quotes for parts pretty much weekly) I'm sure it would be MUCH cheaper to buy a tailgate panel than have one custom CNC'd. Most retail just under ~$200 and there's no way a shop is going to do a one off part that large for anywhere close to that.

Also you might want to look into waterjet/laser cutting shops for the rack. CNC is way overkill/slower/more expensive for cutting out rack sides from a flat plate.

The savings in these DIY projects is in the do it yourself part (and not placing much value on your time hahaha), once you start paying shops to do it for you it kinda blows the budget up. IF you are dead set on having a shop CNC everything for you I have had many great experiences with Syncro Design in Clackamas. They specialize in engineering prototypes so they are much more open to 1 off jobs than alot of others.
