Two kegs at Sangin when we were there. Shared with the Brits.

The NCO is pretty much dead. When the entire military is moving to not allow any actual harsh treatment of soldiers/sailors/etc then the NCO dies with it.

I wonder if this trend has resulted in the increased number of PTSD cases. Kids who’ve been spoon fed training having to suddenly deal with the harsh realities of the rest of the world.

Heck, we feared the training NCO’s more than the enemy. (For the sarcasm challenged, that’s a joke)

The only way we survived ASU Baharain was the alcohol. Which is why it was called Alcohol Support Unit ..... I spent 27 days there, waiting on my boat to arrive off the cost of Pasni Pakistan for RHINO. I could not imagine it dry.

I said yes i told told him he had weekend duty...ill make it up to him later with days off when we can afford him being gone...

I dunno what he expected me to do. Seemed like i was supposed to coddle him cuz he had weekend duty..

Yep. I wasn't a dick as a NCO but I definitely wasn't soft on my guys. We got along well and they knew what was expected, most were disciplined enough to maintain the standard and the ones that didn't were thrashed until they figured it out too. Now it's probably called hazing, being demeaning, not caring about their feelings and a bunch of other crap. Maybe combat arms where I grew up is still like that but aviation were I am now is definitely soft as fuck. Glad to not be a NCO anymore because I would lose my shit with the complete and total lack of discipline and standards.

It's okay, 'cause when someone's shooting at you, they'll do it in a non-offensive, and emotionally empowering manner.

I never had ANY of those issues. If folks didn't want to be there and do the work, they got shown the door. It's amazing how denying reenlistment to one mediocre troop who fails to maintain standards has such a positive effect on everyone else. I was also in a high-demand area that was hard to get into, so everyone was always jockeying to be the best in an extremely closed organization. I'd just have to say "we need X done" and it was done.

I spent almost all my time as a SNCO writing BTZ, quarterly award, and decoration packages. Train 'em up, point 'em in the right direction, and stay out of their way. The enlisted core were awesome.

The junior officers, on the other hand, were a fucking nightmare. You'd think they'd understand the difference between "power" and "authority" by the time they put on that yellow bar. But nooooOOOOooooo....

It would not be the military if "hurry up and wait" were not involved.

She spotlighted a female airman on her government social media account that ran down her PJ ex with a bunch of lies. People that know them cried foul telling her to call the females boss at chaplains service to find out how toxic she really is. That’s when the deleting of comments and blocking users began. If any of us did what she did we’d be relieved and disciplined.
