AMC movie theaters are open here in Georgia.

Reduced capacity of course, but open.

I'm in at $11. Just small amount of shares in it though.

That was my thought back in March. I bought AMC and Cinemark because they were so cheap and I thought for sure once theaters open back up they would rocket back up to pre covid numbers. Cinemark did well and steadily rose but AMC kind of floundered as they went in and out of bankruptcy rumors. They started to dip again so I got scared and dumped them and they eventually hit $2, I think even less, before the explosion last week. I think right now they are pretty in line with pre-covid so I don't think they have a long term growth potential. I do think that people will return to the movies, but now that everything has gone streaming and new releases are hitting HBO MAX at the same time it's going to hurt the potential I had originally planned for. I also dumped my Cinemark to buy GME so what do I know

They are open here as well, in NC, but we don't have many AMC theaters. We have a lot of Regal. They definitely are not doing well. Anytime I drive by a theater there is at most 3 cars in the parking lot. I know a lot of them tried the rent a theater offer where you could have the theater to yourself for your own group and split the cost. I think the lowest I saw was $100 for the movie. Split 10 ways is still cheaper than a ticket but I don't know many people that took them up on it. The Cinemark did it but also required an additional $150 minimum in food purchase, so that kind of defeats the whole concept of savings for the movie-goer but theaters have a HUGE margin on food/concessions vs. the ticket price so I get the idea from a business perspective

Potentially. I saw that, thanks to us, they were able to secure a loan to keep them afloat at least until September. They then put said money into the market which is taking care of their principal and interest (something to that effect. I shared the article a few pages back).

I dunno. Movie theaters stopped being fun for me a couple of years ago. My couch is more comfortable, and I won't get kicked out for yelling at my dog to shut the fuck up already about the damn squirrel in the backyard. I still prefer that over some random 5-year old screeching to borrow mom's phone because his tablet is too dark. I think this year might have convinced more people that the way of the couch is the better way.

    From what, March?

VTI is my go to, it's a lot more diversified than SPY, but still similar. ER is only 0.03% instead of SPY 0.10%. SPLG is my "I don't have quite enough for a full share of VTI right now..." fund, that's also 0.03 and is an SP500 fund.

All my serious money is just in VTI. All my "play" stuff is a whopping like 500 bucks ± a few hundred depending on how I'm doing that week  I have a few self directed real stuff (XOM, CSCO, F) but most of it just goes into VTI and don't think twice. :notsure:.

I'm with you on that. On top of it: I have a dog too, don't have to crate her for 3-4 hours, she can snooze on the couch with us. We don't have kids, BUT getting them into the car, to the theatre, waiting in line for tix, etc. - vs "Come sit on the couch ya little shit". You can control the thermostat. You can wear slippers. Winter: I can have a nice fire going in the living room. BUT if anyone in the industry can make it, it's AMC.

But why would you be yelling at your dog in a movie theater?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
We can drink in our theater. It's just a local one though and not brand named. Some movies I want to first on the big screen.

FWIW, Studio Movie Grill has beer and whiskey in abundance, staff brings it to your seat, though it's not cheap. :D

All that said, I prefer being at home vs going to the theater.

Most likely they can. Though I'm personally rooting for Alamo Drafthouse, with the hopes that they one day go public.
