Magnaflow Catback: I think I hate it.

I just installed a new Magnaflow Catback Exhaust on my 2010 Double Cab Short Bed. I think I hate it. It is way louder than what I was expecting. I think I might ditch it and reinstall the OEM exhaust.

Do you get used to it? I wanted a little growl but this is a little more than what I wanted. I watched all the you tube videos and it sounded cool, but I guess there is no substitute for the real thing.

Thoughts anyone?

 

thats sucks.i just put the muffler on almost 2 years ago and it seems to be a little louder.still not bad at all imo and i'm old.

 

Really u think its loud my brother has magna flow on his tacoma and I think it so quiet compared to the flow masters I have

 

I have a theory on exhaust systems for our trucks..........Leave them stock / quiet. I have yet to hear a system for these trucks that I would want to hear every time I fire the thing up. The six just isn't going to have a rumble that will sound "mean". I say, leave the exhaust alone if it ain't a V-8. I know some of you will think this is bologna, that is fine.

i think it's too loud. My wife and I also have a BMW 335xi with the sport package and that thing has the sexiest exhaust note. Perhaps that what I had in mind more so than the "here comes joe812 in his pickup truck" growl. I am gonna agree with hardtaco on this one.

 

hmmm ... I put a Magnaflow muffler only on my DCab LB 2mos ago and it sounds great when I drop it in 3rd or 4th gear.. when in D (5th) its quiet. Not sure how that Catback would affect the sound?

I just got daul magnas on my taco and it sounds great for a v6.

 

hey BT..did you notice a drop in RPMs?? I swear i'm running 200 rpm less since changing from stock to Magnaflow.

 

I had a magnaflow muffler installed, I didn't really like it until the first 400-500 miles. now I think it sounds great, I only hear it when I get on it.

 

i was thinking of getting a magnaflow muffler for xmas but unsure if i'll like the sound, so im gonna hold off on it for now

 

Should have gotten the TRD exhaust then. That's what I have and I wish it was louder. Not that I dislike it.

 

give it some time to break in.

 

It's all about the dimensions of the muffler. If you go with a shorter Magnaflow/flowmaster then you'll get louder notes and more interior resonance. I swapped out 3 different Magnaflows until I found the sound that I loved. I believe I ended up wiht the 5x8x22 (?) or something like that. Sounds perfect for me, not annoying, but very subtle. When you step on it then you'll hear it come to life, for around town it's hardly noticeable.

 

What happens to a muffler to "break in"? It will sound softer?

 

I had a flomaster but it was way to lound. I put on a dynomax superturbo and I love it. It has a low rumble but is not noisy. Its nice when I drive down the highway I can tell I am driving a truck but I dont get droned out. I do have the 4 banger but I think that it would sound even better on the 4.0L

 

Sell or trade for the trd cat back.

 

You can always add a resonator after the muffler that will quite it down a little.
