    For your sanity, yes.

It will make you have fewer questions in the future should anything go wrong

Pulling a motor is pulling a motor. Watch some youtube videos on it. Basically just disconnect everything that connects to the body or anything that isn't the block.

Dunno if the FSM has info on how to pull it.

Make sure you use the right anchor points on the block when you're attaching it to the engine hoist.

does the fly wheel have to be removed or just simply unbolting the trans from the block?

Don't have to remove the flywheel. You could pull the tranny with it too if you wanted, just a bit trickier to maneuver it out

Well I got to built the motor from trans correct? Besides that just the ac condenser off and such. Don’t take wiring harness out since I’m using same motor

edit: sorry for all the questions first time pulling motor

    All good.

You're headed in the right direction. Pull the motor with everything on it, then swap the stuff over to the new one to go in

motor mounts hold the motor to the frame.
Not sure how many bolts hold the tranny to the motor. There's like three tricky ones at the top of the bellhousing that are tricky to get to though. Gonna need a swivel adapter and a long extension

Make sure the exhaust is disconnected too. Either remove the exhaust manifold, or could try and leave it attached and remove it at the end of the collector.
Disconnect fuel, power steering, AC, etc.

Here's a video that has the general outline of how you should approach it.

Everything is unbolted besides ac compressor motor mounts, my head is off so everything is off fuel line isn’t connected to anything.

so motor mounts and trans bolts?

Are these the holes that mount the motor to trans? (Not my photo)

Yup those are them. Although I believe that's the V6 since it has an exhaust crossover.

The 3rz might have them in slightly dif spots, but for the most part that's where they should be around. Our starter is also on the driver side not the passenger side

How exactly do I unbolt it? When looking under the truck I see I think the fly wheel with the teeth and the bolts as well. Do those come off?

Unbolt the transmission? Or the flywheel?

Transmission should just be those bolts holding the bellhousing onto the block. Do you have a manual or auto?

Here's a picture of my transmission when I first did the clutch.

The bulge in the upper left corner of the bellhousing is where the starter lives & rides on the flywheel.

You can see all the holes around the bellhousing that hold it on.

I have a auto. And some people are telling me I need to unbolt those bolts from inside the bell housing?

Hm. Yea can't speak too much to the auto side of it for a tacoma. Never removed an auto transmission from a vehicle. Although can't imagine it's too much different. Same principles apply
