Switching from a 2010 DCLB to a 2020 DCSB. Can someone post a picture of what a full size motorcycle in the rear bed? Does it fit? Any known problems? I have no problems with the long bed and transporting my bike. Thanks

The general consensus seems to be that the weight will start to deform your tailgate, it would need some reinforcement at the very least.

That was not my experience with 60+ trackdays in my'06. Not an issue with the tailgate at all. Never had a shortbed though, so can't tell how bike(s) fit..

Yea OP's question was how people with bikes deal with a SB truck, from what I was reading the weight of the rear wheel of a bike bends the tailgate pretty severely. One of the reasons I never even tried to load my bike into my 5ft bed. With a 6ft bed you don't really have this issue, as proven by your pic. Rear wheel doesn't rest on your tailgate.

Yeah, more loading and unloading across the tailgate. I could see issues if you're bouncing the rear of the bike on the tailgate during transport. I'd probably run 3/4" plywood the length of the bed+tailgate.

Hmmmm......need to define "Full size bike".

Dirt, enduro and sport bikes are have a much shorter wheelbase than a Cruiser. Then you have 1/2 the diameter of the front and rear tires.

Also the weight of the bike can be significant. Many cruisers will tip the scales on the heavy side of 800 lbs.

My bike is a cruiser, it tips the scales just short of 500 lb. Wheelbase is 57 inch, 19 inch front wheel, 16 inch rear. Total length will push over 5 feet.

I think it's implied that the OP is talking about dirt bikes based on his picture. Unless thats not his truck and bikes and just some random pic from the internet...

I would agree that something like a Harley or big road bike wheel resting on the tailgate would cause damage if it were to land there.

specifically got a LB so i could fit bikes. i think i measured that my DR650 would fit diagonally in a SB, but it fits in LB with tailgate closed.

What's wrong with your 2010 Tacoma? You could just get another long bed since long beds rule. :headbang:

Take the plastic panel off the tailgate and you will see why a reinforcement plate is a necessity. I don’t trust this design on our trucks to hold up to a constant load:
