I obviously don't know much but I have read from many sources that people are anticipating a correction this year, and if that happens I'm ready to dump every penny I can into some solid dividend stocks and ETF/Mutual funds that have to do with autonomy/robotics. ARKQ ETF looks very nice but the expense ratio seems high. I managed to get in on the single lowest week in march with AAPL and a generic tech mutual fund. Curious what you guys think on if a correction will happen? I know literally anything could happen, but if it does happen, I'll be ready.

I've been hearing correction imminent shouted from the rooftops for a while now. We didn't see it through the coronavirus, and the momentum hasn't really slowed.

What's the catalyst that could bring a correction? We're not in a subprime loan bubble anymore. Student loan defaults? Maybe, but unlikely.

More and more to me it looks like we might have to have WW3 or an earthquake that splits the US in half to get any sort of meaningful correction.

Small corrections 5-10% happen all the time. Bigger than that, every few years. Don’t worry about it. Invest in solid companies, and you’ll be able to ride them out. Zoom out on the charts far enough and you barely notice them. If you are retiring in the next 3 years, then this may not apply to your situation :D

I think (famous last words) we’re safe for now but once the hammer drops on housing/rent delinquencies it’s going to cascade across all sectors. I’d say that October looks like possibility.

I used to think like that but then realized the longer I waited, the more stonks went up and I missed out on those gains. Better to get in as soon as you can. And completely contradictory to what I just said, you may want to wait until the people are required to start paying rent again, that may be fun housing crisis 2.0...:D

Just my personal opinion but all the ARK funds are awesome. Cathie is one smart cookie

Her return on them for the last 5 years is off the charts for funds. Smart is an understatement in her case.

There's still so much demand though.

This was posted in the local Reno subreddit earlier:

There's just like no supply. Housing are closing immediately for cash at asking. And this is RENO, NV of all places. We have wild horses and distribution centers.

Even if there's a flood of defaults, the demand isn't going to crash, and there's lots of rental companies that made a killing over 2020 just waiting to scoop up properties.

Genomic, Innovation, and Fintech seem to be the most popular, but you really can't go wrong with any of them.

I agree. My only individual stock picking is on high risk/high reward/high stupidity bets like GME.

Outside of this little bubble of nuclear bombs that I play with for fun, my portfolio contains:

    VTSAX
    VTIAX
    ARKK
    ICLN
    VBTLX
    VTABX
    GLDM
    SGOL

That's it. That's the entirety of my tickers outside of my ~10kish casino account.

I just saw an ad on Hulu for an investment app called Stash. Is anyone familiar with it?

I have a friend that uses it. It's basically "intro to investing". No options, limited things to trade, and you pay a (very small) monthly fee to use the service. Not worth it IMO when there's so many other choices out there.

Just get ARKK. It's a mix of the others made of their highest-conviction picks.

I like ARK (over the past year I VERY LIKE ARK) but not enough to hold a ton of active funds. I still don't believe active investing outperforms indexing once one adjusts for risk.

It's pretty much all the past year dragging the average up. But I think the most important item is that structurally ARK is set up well for people who want an aggressive growth approach. They're transparent, their entire schtick is getting in early on things with massive future potential, and the ERs are quite tame for actively managed funds.

Eventually it boils down to: Do you think some of the tech we're just seeing glimpses of now, like genome editing, machine learning/AI, etc. are passing fads or the next internet and smartphone? I strongly believe the latter. These things are going to become central pillars of life worldwide over the next decades.
