You might be surprised how hot oil can get, once it stores heat it takes a lot longer to shed it especially on something with an iron block. But running it through a cooler gets cooling to every known major pressure point and hot spot, which coolant alone can't do because it has to go through jackets at the edge. I know on my 135i when I'm not seeing how many pounds of boost I can make or what the top speed is it hovers at 220-230*F and the coolant is about 200-210 usually. The thermostat and water pump for the coolant is electronic and opens and closes as it pleases and speeds up or slow down as it wants. The oil is thermostat controlled too and it's full open at 230, and with my coolant still at 210 I've been able to still get oil at 250. And that's with a system that can electronically control the curve ideally, imagine what one that can only react to latent heat (like a traditional wax pellet thermostat) can do to temp spikes. My Z had an oil temp gauge but no cooler and boy did it get toasty in AZ, 190* water temps but 235-245* oil temps. Those temps aren't super hard on the engine bits really, but they're hard on the oil which over the life of the oil change could end up being hard on the engine.

In order to use 2003-2006 tundra spindles on tacos/runners you need to rheem out the ball joint stud on the lca

Along with larger bolts for the spindle and bj the bj stud is girthier

Really considering welding my rear diff sometime this year until I get my hands on a 6 lug rear.

Couldnt even find a spool for the 7.5 rear, only 8. Wishing wulf wasnt banned so i could ask him how it was for him driving it around with one. Figure ill have to half my tire rotation intervals to help with the wear, but shouldnt be bad

Definitely something to consider. I do use a good, full synthetic so it *should* stand up to the heat better than conventional oil but a cooler would still be a good idea. Might just have to look into it.

I'm gonna promise you you'll hate it. It's hard on everything and it makes slow movement on dry pavement (something you'll do a lot of in AZ) like pulling teeth. Your tires will screech and skip as you pull in and out of spaces and make the bed hop and load up the driveshaft, trans, and leafs. Your turning radius will either increase or you'll scrub tires hard and wreak havoc on tread. You want to play in the dirt, get a lunchbox locker or a limited slip. Its a 5lug, with a locked up diff it isn't really gonna change the fact that you don't have enough suspension travel or front traction to hold the terrain, you'll just get yourself stuck worse than if the diff had let you know you need to stop earlier. Also a locker/spool in the snow (if you plan to go to Flagstaff or something) is a recipe for disaster on a light 2WD truck, every time you accelerate the backend will want to come around.

I feel like expectations always play a role tho. People bitch about the ride quality in general with the 5 lugs and I dont mind it. In fact ill be happier when it gets stiffer with the level kit.

IF im gonna rip the rear out anyways and can avoid getting stuck in cases where 1 wd would, why not? Just because i have more traction doesnt mean Ill ape out and dig myself in with pinning it. I appreciate the feedback and will consider, but wanna ask jake how it was for him actually driving it bc he has the same dgaf mentality I do with shit

more adjusting to the drive behavior is fine by me. Im gonna be slow anyways when I go up to 31s so im not worried about spinning in circles from it being too peppy lol

Go to irate4x4 then, he's on there under the same user name. I have a DGAF mentality, but both Jake and I have other things to drive too. Kinda sucks when it's your only mode of transport.
