A little stain splatter on the innards, but not too bad looking.

Best place to put a JL 10 inch to factory radio. I have always just added my sub and amp to the factory radio. I'm driving a 2017 Tacoma now, coming from VW GTI. Does the weather on very cloudy days or wind affect these stock units. Thanks!

Has everyone that has installed sound deading material on the back of cab behind sub box, covered up the vent that is there or did you leave it open. Is that vent just for fresh air or is there another purpose? Thanks

When you close a door, if it is sealed properly to prevent water intrusion, the air compresses and needs some way to escape into the atmosphere. If you have a very well sealed door in a small room you get the same effect. A vent avoids your ears popping due to pressure change and makes closing the door easier.

Is that what those plastic things are? LOL

I sealed over the whole damn thing. All the back. Partially dismantled the rear window motor to do it which was a PITA. No issues with not having the vents so far. Always wondered what they were.

Yeah I was wondering about that, if that was left open wouldn't that kind of defeat the purpose of deading the back area. Too cold for me to try now I just put two sheets behind the box (unstuck)and seams to actually work good.

I used deadening material on the back panel as well but went around the baffles. When I'm working on the system I have the rear seat removed. When I drive the baffles are being pushed in by outside air and noisy as heck. I will turn the fan on to low to create some cab pressure which closes them up. Would be interesting to know what they are for.

I wonder if I will have issues with air flow in certain situations. I could always fix it I guess but it would be nice not to get back there again. I was looking at this video when I did all of this. This was a second gen and maybe they have air flow somewhere else. Or not at all?

There's really no need to use that much sound deadening material over a surface like that. Really only need to cover the areas that are hollow sounding and not secured by layers of metal. You can tell the difference between these areas by knocking or tapping with your finger.

Also going over the baffles will effect the cabin pressure. May be more difficult to shut your doors or may cause unwanted pressure with a/c or air on. They are designed so when you close the doors and the air is moving from the door being shut, it has a place to escape. Every vehicle manufacturer has these, usually in the trunk of a sedan.

I just searched a bit on the forum and the consensus seems to be they are to control cabin pressure especially during sudden changes in the cab such as doors shutting, windows etc. and probably most important during an airbag firing off.

Oh man... Well, I do actually have somewhere to go today so I will run the HVAC on various settings and see what issues come up. Worst case I can open them back up. Best case is maybe it helps with my tennitus.

Yeah, dammit. I’m going to open them back up. Thanks all for the advice on this. I looked at them when I did the install, but I didn’t see their function. I hate it when I don’t know what I don’t know. Should have looked into it more. When the air vents are on full blast, and I crack a window, the air does blow harder. Plus, yes, if all of the air bags deploy, that is a lot of displacement. There are benefits to having dampening back there, but it’s not like the doors where the sealed matting makes a speaker box.

When my subwoofer is really bumping, you can actually feel the cold air come into the cabin through the vents. I can only imagine what the pressure is like with them sealed up with the subwoofer. It must give the inside of the truck a good shake.

I just noticed it one day when I was looking between the the cab and bed and saw the top black plastic part or I would have done something probably.
