There seems to be a worldwide "builder" civilization that was constructing massive megalithic (giant stones) structures with similar construction techniques regardless of continent. Considering that we have yet to understand how they did that with our current knowledge of their technology, I'd consider that legacy information on the construction of massive infrastructure and engineering requires more time to rise to that level than the current models indicate. This is supported by water weathering on the Sphinx, and the intentional and very deliberate burying of Gobekli Tepe. They very likely built in stone and utilized massive cave networks out of necessity and availability of resources.

It has been suggested that this method of construction was used because of some historical disaster, earthquake, or MCE where only things underground or built of megalithic stones would have provided protection. This advanced knowledge of stonework, structures, and historical disasters leads some to believe that even before 12,000 BCE, these people were organized, skilled, and used relatively efficient means to transport, work, and place the stones. It's hard to do that without a history of cooperation and technology.

Add this to the fact that around that time the Early Holocene sea level rise was taking place and you have a perfect storm for advanced trading ports and cities on coastlines (which is where our modern advanced cities are) would be under the ocean in less than 5000 years. And there you have it. Humanity (except for Egypt) basically goes into survival mode, compared to what it was, all the way until the end of the bronze age. At the end of the bronze age collapse, there are several hundred years of "darkness" before we get written accounts of anything like a major economy.

So, advanced city building and planning is part of being an advanced civilization. As is the efficient use and management of all of your resources including organized skilled labor on the scale of something like an ancient Egyptian city. If you want to get into the weeds about Egyptian stone work, look up the mystery of how they drilled 6 inch holes in stone with a tool that had a feed rate of maybe 20 rotations per inch. Fascinating if you're into tooling as well.

    I happen to be a nerd. Sorry...

    @ResearchMonkee and @Sociopenguin

Here are a couple of examples of the Egyptian stone working and moving techniques I'm talking about.

This stone is in Egypt. In Egypt, they would chisel the carrying nubs flat in almost all cases after they were placed.

These are from South American megalithic structures. SA builders left them on far more often. Who knows why. Maybe it was unfinished.

Here are some shots of core drilling samples. Look how thin the wall of the core drill is. Like .25" or so. That's metal thickness, not stone tool thickness. Some still attached cores are 6"+ long.

These are the tooling marks on the inside of the holes

Don't get me started on Pumapunku structures. We have no idea what these guys were up to, but I guess it was at the same time and they were trying to improve and standardize stone building to be the leaders in whatever... again, who knows.

    Thats crazy.

It’s also pretty crazy how long its been since we went to the moon and we basically flew there using a calculators worth of computing power.

Haha, it's no problem. I wish I had your ability to retain all this knowledge as well as your vernacular. Mine is not the best. I did not expect your answer to be so in depth though, lol.

Oh yeah, I've seen those. It's been mentioned on Ancient Aliens a few times.

That kind of stuff leads me to believe they had a lot of help from a much more advanced civilization.

There is a crapload to be said for amazing pilots and operators. Our current cost/benefit economy and risk averse social structure doesn't support amazing people doing incredible things.

Well, autism is a helluva drug.

It wasn't "help from" it just was our own advanced civilization. Like how major metropolitan areas just have amenities like public transportation, underground power lines, and the like that the rural communities don't have. If the major cities were lost and living conditions were globally generally inhospitable due to a disaster, we'd be set back at least hundreds of years economically. Plus, the resulting food, housing, and resource crises that would inevitably follow coupled with disease from living in temporary encampments with little utility or infrastructure to handle those masses would trigger something super bad for humanity.

@Sear87 might have more insight on the mining aspect.

I also heard an interesting take on Biblical event of Noah's flood. Whether you believe in it or not, this idea is interesting: There may have been an incredible amount of technology wiped out during the flood. Think about the idea of our world starting over with just 8 people. It more-or-less sets humanity back to the stone age. There's no telling what sort of technologies and inventions got buried underneath the devastating flood. Even the act of building the ark required massive planning and skill - Building a structure that can float and withstand whatever impact a storm can bring from a worldwide flood. This would take massive coordination, skill, and planning. Who knows what kind of machines or systems they had in place to put everything together. And you could also wander out and assume that this form of construction wasn't rare during that time, given that a handful of people were quickly able to coordinate and build the ark.

    Just food for thought...

Yeah, there is a growing body of evidence that the Late Pleistocene Great Flood during the Early Holocene warming caused or was a result of a massive raised elevation glacial sea in the Northeast of Europe and Northwestern part of Asia in the Black Sea Basin area. The "flood" could have been a breach of the land body that isolated the Black Sea Basin from the Mediterranean basin. The Mediterranean area also happens to be where the majority of our records of humanity come from.

Given their assumed (my assumption, not a scholar's) knowledge of building, general construction and maritime navigation, at least some of the people might have seen it coming or tried to tell everybody that it was coming.

8 people? Probably not. 8,000. Probably. We're talking about the region, not the globe though. The common current thinking is that we had a global population maybe in the 100s of thousands up to a million or so that had no way of communicating reliably after ports and major cities fall.

There may also have been an event of much greater magnitude in a similar time frame in the Northwest portion of North America, with the flooding exiting in Washington/ Oregon area.

That's awesome, at first I was thinking "how did he know?..." But then I remembered my name was in the profile tab. People usually don't put the two together.
