It worked out pretty well, I was emailing dealers from PA to WA and none of them would match. I blame myself for needing a black MT & leather seats.

almost makes you think that if they say "costco" out loud, their prices automatically lower lol

    First post,

    I've lurked quite a bit.

Just purchased my TRD Off Road Army green
    -LED lights
    -premium off road package
    -Tech package
    -tonneau cover
    -mudguards/ liner/ sill protectors

    MSRP: $44,582.00
    Negotiation - $2,900
    Rebates : -$1000
    -8.5% Off MSRP
Trade in: -$9,400 2014 Toyota Camry 60,050 miles
-(The thing lived it's entire life on the salty roads of Maine and the frame had rust and a few dents.)
    Tax: $1890.27
    Dealer fee: $399.00
    Title + inspection: $45
Fluid film undercoat application: $249 (3 gallons)

    OTD: 33,865.27

Overall pretty happy, my wants were rather specific and there was only one other Army Green Tacoma in the entire state so my only other option was to "order" it or road trip for one. Dealer didn't add anything and the fee was relatively low. Only thing I overpaid for was the fluid film but whatever, i'm buying a 40k truck.

What is confusing is that on the Toyota website it allows you to do a premium package + tonneau option, but it just adds the prices together. The tonneau is not included in the premium package and is priced on its own in reality. I got the tonneau and love it.

I'm getting 21 TRD Sport 4x4 DCSB AT (no options) for 34,000, 34,800 OTD. 4455 off MSRP, around 12% off
Did a ton of haggling with a smaller dealership, and was getting tired of dealing with them. Everyone look online in Florida, they have amazing starting prices, and you can use them to put pressure on dealerships closer to you.
I signed up on TrueCar, and two higher volume dealerships(Toyota of Greenville and Spartanburg in SC) called me.
I told them my best offer thus far, and one beat it by 1300, and the other beat them.
Definitely skip the in person(aside from a test drive), and contact the online salespeople, especially at high-volume dealerships.
Also, buy at end of month/quarter/year. Hit em in that quota time!!!

Wow! These new Taco Prices are getting pricey. I got a decently packaged 19OR Near the end of the year of 2019 for 31K. But i did get a crazy good deal and shaved off about 8K off sticker price. No trade.

How much are dealers willing to shave off and negotiate with these newer trucks on the lot?

How strange. I hadn't seen the tonneau bundled together but today when checking truecar based off @ColdTheraP091 's post, the cover is bundled into their "Loaded" spec. I wonder why that hasn't come up before for me.

Depends on model. 10% pretty easy on local basic SR. When you get into Sport/OR in higher demand colors, people are getting 2K off or so on the 40K versions. Of course that is all geography. Since locally people are paying 5-7K OVER MSRP for Sport/OR/PROS, dealers can charge whatever they want. Most dealers locally doing 1,000-2,500 over MSRP, on Sport/OR, and those trucks are coming off truck from toyota straight to customers, no time spent on lot.

Essentially none..... at least by me. They are essential in not so few words

"people will buy these, we can't keep them on the lot, it takes weeks to get them in, someone will buy it for sticker (or close to sticker).... we don't care if you buy it or not someone will, and rather than giving you a deal I'll let the next guy come through and pay full price"

How true that actually is may be debatable but they we pretty unwilling to negotiate. I had to go back and forth for an hour just to get a semi-fair price for my trade. Any money off MSRP was a hard no (other than $1000 off rebate, and 2% apr)

it also didnt help that I put an order in for one and waited ~2 months for it to get there.... that kinda shows my hand that I want the truck and also gets me exactly what I want, so that takes away some negotiating power vs just rolling up to the lot and trying to haggle for one

thats crazy. I knew these trucks were always popular and in demand but i feel like in a blink of an eye their demand in the marked just skyrocketed for some reason. In OCT of 2019 things were different as they chopped off 8K from the sticker price as a deal. Crazy how the market for these trucks are crazy popular now

Yea they would have laughed me out of there if I tried asking for 8% off. I dont blame them, if I was selling something and had people willing to pay full price, why would I sell to someone for cheaper. There is just a ton of demand right now, more-so than usual... not sure why

Covid changed the whole world. Supply chain problems (semi conductor etc).....

In the FJ60/62 world, 15K trucks are now 35K trucks, in that time frame.

My 2018 SR Utility trade in before Covid was 18K. I sold it for 21K now.

Hi guys. Brand new to the forum. Prior first gen owner, also a Land Rover and Jeep dude throughout the years. Located in Denver.

Super hot market here. Here's what I got and am paying. Had to buy the truck off allocation, expected build date of 2/22
    '21 TRD Off-Road M/T Cement
    • Basic tech package
    • All weather floor mats and & sill liners
    • Mudflaps
    • Exhaust tip
    • Predator tube steps
    MSRP as built: $38,641
    Dealer discounts: $2,064
    Delivery & Doc fees: $640.94
Toyota rebate: TBD based on March incentives at time of delivery
    Taxes (City/State/Public Trans): $3278.90
Total OTD Price: $40,496.90 subject to (hopefully) another $1000 mfg rebate

Does anyone have experience arguing on the delivery fees? The spec sheet from Toyota includes "Delivery Processing and Handling $1,175.00" and the dealer invoice also includes a $599 delivery and handling fee. I'm not really understanding how they deliver the same truck twice. Unless it costs $599 to move it off the truck, into the lot, and call me to come pick it up.

Also I'll probably pull the steps off for some more functional rock sliders. If anyone in Front Range CO is interested in them, hit me up with an offer!

    Thanks
    brolome

From one new guy to another, hi!

It's too late now, but it's worth asking why that fee got doubled up. If you get a bogus answer, a diplomatic variant of "I'm not paying for that, sorry" can do the trick. Especially considering the dealer already hit you with their dealer documentation fee. Alternatively, ask them what extra parts/services they're throwing in for free since you're doing them the favor of paying for a service you didn't request/receive.

The original 1500ish should be built in the MSRP. Check to see if the other is a deposit/hold since it is getting shipped just for you. I put 500 down for that but I can get it back or put it towards the truck. If not I think they’re sneakily up charging you

Technically it's not too late now, haven't paid anything yet. They have a CC on file to take the $500 reservation once the truck is built, and the rest will be sorted at time of delivery. I'm paying cash down payment and BYOFinancing courtesy my credit union.

I asked and the answer was essentially that Toyota's charge is the actual delivery of the truck from factory to lot and their fee is what pays the techs for the once-over on arrival and "the girls in the back office who do our paperwork" (lmao classic subtle dealership gender roles) for what it's worth. Does seem like I'm getting charged twice. I guess I can pretend the $2k in dealer discounts covers some of that. I'm not too hung up on it TBH.

In my experience. It's better to do the initial financing through the dealer, then try and move it to your credit union a few months later. They usually get a kick back on the financing (which usually sweetens your deal). Then after the paperwork is signed - you can do whatever you want. You might eat a slightly higher % the first month or two, but it's peanuts.

Totally valid and I thought about that too. My considerations: I'm not gonna win every little battle nickel and diming, the market is just too hot in Denver. My rate is super competitive from the CU, something between 1.4-1.9% APR depending on credit at time of pull and I have great credit. Also, my understanding is that the Toyota incentives ($1000 rebate, 1.9% finance) are either/or, not both. So I'd rather take the $1000 up front so that my down payment makes more impact, and the amount off for taking their deal probably won't save me any money since my interest rate can likely beat theirs on the financed amount.

They 1.9% and the $1000 rebate are either or, I wanted both and what they could do is "buy down" the percentage on a third party loan servicer.

So I got the $1000 off, and then the financing ended up being through PNC instead of Toyota financing (with actually works our pretty well as PNC is my main bank for all my checking and everyday banking).

So basically they submit all your details to toyota financial and a ton of other lenders too when they run your numbers, and other providers allow them to like... pay some money upfront to get the lower interest. So that is a way you can maybe suggest to get the 1.9% and the $1000 mfg rebate....

But I agree with what you said about the market, at least by me (Philly suburbs in the winter), there is too much demand for them to haggle.
