I love the looks of the earlier pickups & 4Runners. I loved my 87 pickup, other than the color, but needed more room.

Ill be starting a build thread soon and I’ll keep track of the rear bumper progress there.

Do you prefer the full wrap around style or more of an OEM replacement, sans any truck cutting? Mine will be a full wrap and look similar to the one from Relentless fab, but can be easily modified

Such a good looking truck I've always loved the "extended" cab.

I've just been looking at the OEM replacement style and the Relentless bumper is definitely one of the better-looking ones. Anyway, I was looking around for a rear bumper until I broke my bed so I'm trying to figure out what direction I want to go with the truck now haha. I'm kinda considering a flatbed and I actually just got off the phone with a SherpTek rep so who knows that I'll end up doing.

Haha ya it's not terrible right now but the weight of the FlipPac crushed the railing just above my taillight. I can only see it getting worse as time goes on so I'm trying to figure out what direction I want to go with the damn thing.

I'm chalking up the broken bed to your spotting again haha.

    SUCKS....

Toppers and the FlipPac are cool, but the Tacoma bedsides when off roaded don't really hold up. To keep it from getting worse I'd pull the topper till you figure out how to address the issue. One option, once the weight is off, weld up a subframe for the bed can be load bearing.

Note, a roof top tent with bedside cross bars will cause the same issue over time. For a truly robust system it should tie into the frame of the truck. (That reminds me I need to sell the bed cage)

Ya it’s pretty shitty but not surprised it finally happened. The FlipPac is a heavy bitch like 350Lbs+. I should have got bed stiffeners earlier (I have them now) but I really don’t think it would have stopped my issue from happening.

I’ve got the FlipPac off the truck for the time being but I’m trying to figure out if there is some way I can build a brace like you mentioned just need to look into it some more.

I spent quite a bit of time looking at the problem. The bed stiffeners help, but would not prevent the failure mode. If you want to check out the bed rack for some thoughts your more than welcome too. In my opinion the only company making bed racks for a Tacoma is Brute Force Fab where it ties into the frame.

Got my bumper painted and back on after I got my torn radiator core support welded back up for me by an ABQ local with one badass SASed first gen.

And took her out wheeling outside of Sante Fe in the Caja del Rio. FS 24, 24J, to a cool view of White Rock across the Rio, and back down 24M. Cool rocky narrow muddy proper off roading. No real obstacles but pretty big rocks in washes, and a steep rocky decent down towards Ortiz Mountain on 24M. And of course plenty of junipers to scratch up your truck.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but here is a map of the route (blue) we'll most likely take on Saturday. Of course, people can break off and do their own thing or head out whenever but I figured it might be helpful for those of you not familiar with the area. Most of the obstacles are at the west end of the Puerco, so we'll probably stop by Snoopy for lunch & a few wobbly pops. On the way out, we can drop by the dune at Windmill Hill, then swing by the Ledges and see who wants to catch some sweet air.

On another note, if you've got 2way radios, bring them. They can be helpful to talk shit or spot I've got a couple others can use.

    See you all Saturday.

Excellent map. You might want to post this in the Adventures thread as well.

I may come out & join you guys Saturday; Been a while since I saw Snoopy. :turtleride:
