If this thread already exists please link as I did not find one by using search. This comes up a bunch and many of us are finding out our trucks are grossly overweight for the platform. You do need to weigh the pros/cons of why you have armor or how heavy-duty said armor is. I thought it would be good to have a thread that lists/links to various vendors and the weights for each. I am reviewing my current setup and need to find a way to shed 500lbs or so. I still need to need/want the protection but will 3/16" steel do or do I really need 1/4" steel for some Aluminum or no-skid/slider/bumper may make more sense. Comes down to application and use or for that IG worthiness and empty wallet status.

Each setup has its place some are rock solid and some are lightweight but an inventory of common setups at least for me is helpful. I may not change mine (the BAMF have been as solid as they promise to be) but I need to find out where I can shed some fat on the truck.

I have not had a chance to weigh mine yet but found the following so far from the vendor sites.

I will likely move this to a google sheet that can be updated and searchable (did not think of it until I was almost done with the initial post.

Mix and match of 2nd and 3rd gen as the posted weights were the same for either generation. I did not check 1st gen but that would be a great one to add.

If this keeps going post up brand, skid, and weight. I would like to expand to have bumpers, sliders, and other skids such as a rear diff skid or other ones you can think of. This in no way is a complete list but what I could think of off-hand.

Weights are rounded up if provided in fractionals.

If you have some to add to the thread for now and I will add to this post.

Armor Type: Bumper Front/Rear, Sliders, Armoor (IFS, Mid, Trans, Gas, Diff, LCA)
Material: Steel, Aluminum, Hybrid (Steel/Aluminum which now exists ala BAMF)
Weight: in-lbs (if we have grams for on US let's add it or eventually we can convert it.)

When I get around to it ill set up a form and or way to make it so anyone can add to it. Easier to manage that way.

Sorry I don't have any armor to weigh at the moment, but wanted to say thanks for doing this as it will help me in the near future when I figure out what I want to add.

I find it frustrating that the manufactures don’t provide weight and other important information on their websites. Besides weight I’d like to know more details about the materials being used (e.g. which aluminum alloy). Load ratings for hitch receivers and recovery points would also be nice. These are expensive performance items that have long lead times. I’d like to know what I’m paying and waiting for.

I have emailed some shops with questions, but I generally get back very terse and unfulfilling answers. Maybe a phone call is the way to go?

Mobtown heavy duty bolt-on sliders are advertised to be 140 lbs, but I didn’t weigh mine. I think they were advertised at 150 lbs when I bought mine in 2019.

I like the direction of this thread. Weigh to many trucks get bloated unnecessarily which kills performance and mpgs. I'm always very weight conscious about what I put on my truck. What about sliders? AllPro Apex DOM are 140lbs.

Exactly why I started it. My truck is one heavy heavy rig 7k lbs and even with the addition of gears, S/C its basically stock performance wise which sucks. Also with a recently blown rear, all of this just adds to another failure in my future. I like to wheel to not have to worry too much (Still need to but you get it). I have accepted my truck will always be heavy but if I can get it down to 6k or even 6500k fully loaded that extra 500lbs is a big different let alone 1000lbs.

Right now my skids and sliders are all BAMF but also will have a wedge setup and other things with a swingout rear. all that adds up fast. This started with skids thinking of going to 3/16th steel instead of 1/4". Aluminum although lighter is out of the question. i will mess those up fast.

I want to expand it to included sliders, bumpers etc. More based on time earlier.

How about this if you find something use this format:

Armor Type: Bumper Front/Rear, Sliders, Armoor (IFS, Mid, Trans, Gas, Diff, LCA)
Material: Steel, Aluminum, Hybrid (Steel/Aluminum which now exists ala BAMF)
Weight: in-lbs (if we have grams for on US let's add it or eventually we can convert it.)

When I get around to it ill set up a form and or way to make it so anyone can add to it. Easier to manage that way.

    ill add to post 1.

Yeah, really wish I had weighed my set of ARB skids before I installed them.....:annoyed:

Although, I know the ARB Summit Bar for the third gen weighs about 140 lbs; comes in at just over 200 lbs with the addition of a winch.
