Work for an investment/retirement company (like me) and never be concerned with your retirement, just manage to stay employed for 20yrs and you're solid.

https://www.vanguardjobs.com/ Any position can work in Charlotte, FYI. If you find something, let me know, I think we have a corporate referral plan.

14% 401k match. 23 days of PTO to start. You can also carry over a week of vacation and purchase another week.

Our base salaries are a little low, but we get performance bonus, profit sharing, and the above mentioned benefits. Add it all up, average it out over 5 years, and it makes a lot of sense.

I have a roth through them. I like all the webinars and stuff that are put on. Plus being able to have complete control of the account is nice without having to talk or deal with anyone for anything.

I've been in IT for 20 years, and usually change jobs every year or two. Just the nature of the industry, BUT, Vanguard is by FAR the best company I've ever worked for. I've been here going on 4 years and hoping to retire from Vanguard. Customers have the highest focus, and that's just not a PR buzzword, I've heard it from nearly every Vanguard client and I can tell you unofficially that our internal dialogue mimics this as well.

Nothing really sticks out that I’d be remotely qualified for... I’m just a lowely international logistics desk worker and problem solver. I get paid to do critical thinking for our dumbass clients.

Yup, I started as a contractor, and I was so impressed by the way they did things I immediately moved all of my funds to vanguard even before coming on board as a full time employee.

Yeah I'm not fully invested. I have most of my stuff managed through a local firm. I like the small time walk into the office and can talk to the owner and sit and have lunch with them if I want to. Plus they work with my lawyer for my estate planning and what not. There are pluses and minuses to ea. I like both and don't like all my eggs in one basket if that makes sense.

Changing jobs often is why I make what I do today. Only works to a point but early in your career, jump ship as much as you can to get the salary you are satisfied with. I call it a lateral promotion. Get that money on the way in, once you are an employee, you have no further leverage.

There is a saying as an auto tech. The tool boxes have wheels for a reason. I can't tell you how many times I moved. Having leverage of being wanted by multiple companies creates a good bargaining chip too.

I hate thats the way it is though, wish employers would just value the people they have, so much cheaper to keep good people vs loosing them and training new folks. I've even left places for six months and gone back. But I'll likely never leave my current firm, not to a competitor anyway, got a good thing going here. Might leave to do something else one day, but that would be way down the road.

Yeah I left and went back to one company 4 or 5 times.

Leaving and doing something else one day is what I did in my early 30s took some retirement monies and took a midlife semi retirement going back to school taking my time break. I had been working full time since 17 and was just burnt out needed a refresh and to just get out of a rut.

Just hit over 1000 miles on the 4Runner so I guess I'll change the oil. I'm so pissed about it. What a stupid place to put the oil filter. I can change my truck oil in 10 minutes in a tuxedo if I wanted to (using my vacuum pump). Now I've got to get my hands dirty and spend 1 hour doing it on her car. :censored:

(Not said on a condescending tone)Well you know, break in procedures and what not. Small pieces of metal in the oil, smaller than the filter may catch. Plus even Toyota wants you to bring it in at 5k for the first one. I’ll do it now with synthetic, probably at 4K just because she barely drives it, 10k then every 10k after that.
