hey guys, as you can tell im new here to the forum, and im currently looking for my first truck. Im only 15 years old, so this is gonna be my first car. Anyways, this old guy, has a truck for me, and its a 1992 Toyota sr5. He wants 2500, and not even a penny less. I tried to make him drop 100 bucks off, but no. The truck has 256 000KM (160 000 Miles). He is the first owner, and he took care of it, mechanically. My dad drove the truck and he is very happy with the way it runs. It still has the original clutch, but its not slipping. The cab is in very good condition no rust, only 1 small dent. The bed on the other hand is very rusty, but not the type of rust to put your hand through, i think it has potential. The truck is 4x4 and its manual, and everything works. Needs new tires, and it has an aftermarket front bull bar. The motor is 3.0 V6. Do you guys think this is a good deal or is it worth getting? Toyota's here in Canada are very expensive.

thanks man, but im really asking my self if its worth paying 2500 for it. I mean on the local selling list, there is no one under 4000, with a shit load of km's. I dont have much money to spend on extra parts though. I like the truck, but it does need some things, i forgot to mention the muffler has a whole in it, and it burns very little oil, but barely noticable the owner said. The truck has been sitting for 2 years. Are the v6 3.0L motors pretty reliable?

toy's last forever...if they're taken care of. has this received regular maintenance and does the guy have any records of it? oil changes, 30k mile interval maint., timing belt, water pump, seals (usually due around 90-100k miles)? if he's kept up with that then my only concern would be frame rust. take a look underneath and see what condition the frame is in.

otherwise...go for it before someone else grabs it!

thanks for the reply man. I have taken a good look underneath, and there seems to be no frame rust, the frame looks nice and strong. THe guy does not have any records like i wanted to see, but he claims that it has had a tune up 2 years ago, with only 2 rides on, but he never drove it since then. I can tell it has had a tune up, because you can see how the hoses that were worn out have been changed, and more things seem new. The truck also has a hitch, and it used to have a winch in the front too, before some ass hole stole it. I think i might go for it. The motor started up very quick with no problems, oil pressure is all good, the idle hand is very steady, so no air leaks. Other than that the truck is in good condition overall

Another question. Are the 3.0L v6 motors on these types of yotas good??? I mean reliable, and are they know for any common problems? I will be doing a tune up on the motor, along with my dad, and just go through the truck, and remove some rust

also, i am also looking for a 1980's style pick up. Ill be honest, i love those things more than anything. I cant find one that i can pick up, if you were to offer me a brand new tacoma and a 1980's tacoma, be sure ill pick the old tacoma over the new one. But this truck will do for now i guess

    Tacoma's are from 1995.5 on later ;). But I agree -- I wish I had an '80's pickup.

The 3.0 is not the best motor it has had alot of complaints, that's why toyota moved to the 3.4 in 95.5
