i really dont need it.. but i wouldnt mind a u bolt flip on my tundra.. i just think it looks cleaner..

 

Split ring lock washers are a scam. The stock setup doesn't use them either. The torque on a fine thread fastener should be plenty to hold forever.

 

the fine threads work yea. but natural rust is the best loctite

 

lock washers arent really needed with finer threads. coarse threads can handle more torque, but have the disadvantage of liking to come loose. fine threads wont take as much torque, but dont tend to loosen... notice how chevy uses lock washers way more than Toyota? because most bolts on a Chevy are coarser threads

 

i should clarify that coarse is more strength in terms of easily being stripped... fine threads typically are stronger in a cast part.

 

If I really need something to stay I typically reach for loctite or if it's something I take apart regularly or it stays out of the weather I'll just use a nylock. Keps nuts are pretty good too. Split rings never seem to actually hold on to anything. And what I mean by that is they don't hold anything at torque. They'll keep a nut from just falling off because they bite in when it's loose. but tighten down their flat like any other washer and they don't have any bite at all.
