I think they’ve addressed that, said in the video. New hydraulic steering system and something else.

I'll reserve judgement until I see it in person, but it seems like all the trucks these days are doing the SUV thing and starting to all look the same.

I was looking at Frontiers last year and I like their distinctive looks. I would have preferred a minor face lift.

I kinda like it. It has to be an improvement over the old one, I had one as a rental when I had my 2nd gen Tacoma, admittedly it was a base model rental truck, but the suspension was a wallowing mess, and the tupperware interior was nasty. The engine was nice.

Meh, doesn't matter to me, I'll hopefully be driving my '18 for quite a while.

Not trying to start a debate or flame war here, although I guess that's already in process, but how does this not compete in the current gen mid size market and to the Tacoma specifically? Better powertrain than the 3rd gen taco 3.5L V6/6spd combo. All around disk brakes as opposed to the Taco and the rear drum brakes. Interior that is basic yet modern. Up to date safety features. Apparently better payload capacity than the 3rd gen Taco.

I'm not seeing where the new Frontier isn't competitive in this segment. If anything it is the Taco that has lagged behind the Colorado and Ranger despite being the sales leader (Toyota and Tacoma name and badge still carry clout). What is it that the 2022 Nissan Frontier in STOCK form lacks that makes it not competitive? I get that it's a 2022 truck vs a Colorado that came out in 2015 and a Tacoma that came out in 2016 but it seems competitive and on-par to me. I'm not saying people need to start trading in their Tacoma's for one but at the very least it's competitive for new prospective buyers. Now if you're talking about 3rd party and aftermarket support then yes, you'd be absolutely correct. Although that's a different debate entirely.

Again not trying to start a flame war here, just trying to understand your opinion.

What many people want to see is fuel economy from the V6. A lot of midsize trucks are commuters. People want fuel economy but not everyone wants fords little 4 cylinder. Depending how the 9 speed is geared, if that v6 can manage upper of 26 highway and 20-21 city, I think many casual truck owners who are not super big on off-roading will be interested. And my thoughts on those saying they didn't do anything crazy with body style and looks: Did second gen to third gen Tacoma really change that much to the average person or just a lot to us Toyota fanboys?(and girls, everyone's included here)

It doesn’t compete because it’s Nissan and there won’t be much aftermarket support. Sure it has a few things going for it beside the ridgeline look :puke:but at the end of the day it’s a Nissan and most people know what you get with one.

this fanboy response is hilarious.. and is what allows Toyota to get away with stuff like rear drum brakes. you do know most people know squat about car brands, nor do most people care about aftermarket support like we do. 90% of tacomas and trucks in general that I see are stock, most people don't care about aftermarket support.

Nissan sells about 80k frontiers in a year with a 17 year old design, and not so good interior, your delusional if you think this redesign isn't going to allow Nissan to compete with the Tacoma, but like I said hopefully it pushes Toyota to make a even better next Tacoma.

I used to own a 2010 Frontier with 200k miles trouble free, from what I remember it had Dana 44 SHD rear axles, fully boxed titan frame, only weak point was the front diff. which was a Dana 30, great engine and trans, not sure how they don't compete.

Hadn't seen those numbers yet. But my point still stands that to an average consumer who is looking for a daily driver, I can see how some would choose the new frontier over a Tacoma. Especially If Frontiers pricing stays comparable to what it was. I honestly think the Frontier will be a better truck than the Colorado and Ranger just because of interior quality and pricing. Now if ford slapped one of the v6 ecoboosts in a ranger, we'd be having different talks right now...

Motor trans came out in 21. 22 new body but motor trans carryover. So mpg not changing

I am not saying good or bad. Just stating the mpg

Honestly, it looks like it takes a lot of inspiration from the 3rd gen Taco, which looks like it took inspiration from the Dodge Dakota. A little disappointed with the interior as it already seems outdated. The only real complaint I have with the outer design is that the grille just looks out of place. It would look better if it hung down a little lower. Other than that, I like it.

Drivetrain is the same, but aerodynamics are not. It could vary slightly

I do not mind the interior honestly the Tacoma interior is not that great either the seats are not compfy for me on long trips and the panels scratch like crazy. I do like the looks of the seats if they are better than on the Tacoma who knows till you give it a test fart.

That's more of a name plate and brand clout thing which is subjective. Nissan has a name problem here, not a product one. Objectively speaking as the trucks are currently the new Frontier is damn competitive and has many pro's over a 3rd gen Taco. Honestly if you swapped badges between the two trucks people would say the Taco is just the greatest thing ever.

Nissan's aftermarket support sucks because they abandoned the platform long ago. It'll take time but if they commit to the new Titan and new Frontier I think there will be renewed interest in the Nissan platform from the aftermarket sector. If they can build anywhere near the aftermarket support that the current Colorado has then that'll be a win. Another platform that was once abandoned but seems to be thriving now.

Now come 2024 when the new Tacoma is released then the debate opens up again. Don't be surprised if they look towards a hybridized engine and turbo 4. I wonder what the comments will be like then.

I thought most people said the new Frontier looks like a 3rd gen Taco but you're saying it looks like a Ridgeline? Does that mean the Taco also looks like a Ridgeline...?

Please point out where I made myself a fanboy? You keep bringing Toyota into this I never did. Just gave my opinion on my life experience with Nissan products. We won’t even get into the drum brake issue. Please feel free to have your own opinion but please leave me out of the drama response.
