Recently my spouse cheated on me, so we are going through a divorce. He co-signed my truck at the dealership. I know for a fact that he has been following me. I think its through Onstar, but i am not sure. Can someone tell me if and how i can remove the Onstar device from my truck? Or are there any other ways he could be tracking my location?

    Truck - 2016 Tacoma

    Any help is much appreciated.

Probably tracking you through your cellphone and not the truck

I don’t think there is a way to track a Tacoma unless you add some kind of tracking device yourself. Maybe he’s stalking you and following you.

I thought this post was about taking your Tacoma on to a road race track.

Check the OBD port on the truck.
    It is by your pedals.

It is the white plug. Certain trackers plug right into that port.

I checked the car for devices on the outside and inside multiple times but found nothing.

This article made me think it is through Onstar, since he does pay a subscription for all the cars.

Onstar is a GM service and is not affiliated with Toyota.

There might be a gps tracker hidden somewhere in or on the truck (under seats, back seat storage compartment, around the frame, fender wells, bed compartments, bed outlet, ect. GPS trackers come in all shapes and sizes and could be as small as a nickel or as large as a cell phone.

However, if both your names are on the loan/title that's another can of worms you two will have to work out as you're legally both financially responsible and it's attached to both of your credit reports. Perhaps that is what he is concerned about.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Toyota didn’t offer any thing like on star on the Tacoma in 2016. Anything to track on that truck would be aftermarket

    Welcome to TW.

I can't remember if 2016 came with Toyota safety connect and GPS might be tracked. I would check with your local Toyota Dealership and see how to disable it for your truck.

This is a cheap option that might not be as obvious either. I have 4 of these and work great for my vehicles.

If you have proof that your soon to be ex-husband is stalking you, file a police report and temp restraining order. This will show him you mean business. Nobody likes a weekend in jail.

Those little tile trackers are easily slipped in from the top of door seals and just drop inside the door panel. You would never find it without specialized equipment (which you can buy for under 200.00).

Just drive out to the middle of nowhere, with your new man, and let him take care of it.

im sorry, don't mean to offend, but why are you worried if he is tracking you... "you are NOT up to no good" ? none of my business, but ANY evidence would be in your favor.

my personal experience in divorce court...

after an agreed separation, my ex-wife had men in my own house days after i moved into an apartment (neighbors called me)...then she filed against me for abandonment and wanted alimony.... i tried to talk to her because we shared a son and ended up in jail (completely "set up") for domestic violence. i hired a "private detective" company for $2500 to investigate everything and they tracked, recorded on paper and video.... testimony and court approved. i ended up with full custody of my son and all my "alimony" money back.

although, still in debt for legal actions....point being "she says/he says" don't mean anything, hard proof is evidence...the rest is only harassment

record and document everything....i wish you well, divorce is never easy :(

Note those are very short range bluetooth. A real tracking device will require GPS/Cell service and have a limited battery span of 1-2 weeks max before needed to recharge unless it is hardwired.

Also check the battery under the hood. On the positive battery terminal check to see if there are any added wires to power aftermarket devices you are unaware of. Post a picture if you are unsure.
