Pedal Commander installed....WOW

It's crazy, right!? This is the first vehicle I have ever owned that was electronic accelerator. My last daily driver was a 78 ford! Before that I had a 99 Tacoma and that felt way peppier than my 2012. As far as which to buy, the older I get, the more I realise you get what you pay for. I looked at cheaper 'generic' controllers. After looking at the 50/50 reviews they had, I decided on the Sprint Booster because they have been around a long time and I didn't need all the features of the pedal commander. I'm happy with it. When I get a new vehicle, if it behaves the same as mine did, I would buy another in a heartbeat.

I think everybody needs to find somebody with a sprint booster/pedal commander near where they are located to actually try it out and feel the difference.

no horsepower or torque gains, just better throttle response which is a performance gain

 

I would LOVE to do that and show everyone here a true datalog that's identical to a fully stock truck.

there’s a video of them stomping on it on a dead stop with and without the pedal commander, same place, same car, same condition. With the pedal commander you can really tell the difference in acceleration cause of the throttle response, it even spun the tires a bit.

I know number don’t lie, I can’t explain how it works with the ecm. That’s why you just have to try it.

If I didn’t have one already and I wanted one. I would tell you to buy one to try it out and if you don’t like it I would buy it off of you lol

 

I have been looking at your 'data grab' for a while now and there's something I don't understand. If the blue line is the pedal and the green line is the throttle blade, wouldn't the space between them be lag? And why does it look like the throttle is closing before the pedal is released toward the end?

 

it seems a lot of people that say "smash the pedal" "its the same" have not tried one. for those that have one or tried t did notice the difference. not in actual HP or TRQ but it response time. IDK why if you say "man the response is so much better with the SB or P" people get mad and say yu wasted money. try it, notice the diff, if its not for you return it. but you will feel he difference in response regardless.

Thanks shawn, I'm in your boat, I loved my "98" Taco, with a throttle cable, was fine, this 2013 I traded for, with the FBW, feels like a slug, & both 2.7, RC, 4X4's. If I could get this 2013 to feel even close to how the old "98" felt, I'd be happier than the dickens. & to nd4spd, I like the charts, they can be of great info. But if the charts say there is no difference, but if you put one on your Taco & felt the difference, would you still believe the chart???? How can we disregard what the folks "THAT HAVE TRIED THEM" & are using them are say'in? I haven't decided for sure yet, but gosh this 2013 Taco is a weak slug, I've got to try something.

 

I guarantee you will love driving it after u install one. I can't wait to drive to work every morning lol. Some friends asked if it has affected my mileage, and I'm sure it has, but not enough for me to even worry about. One safety concern though...if you drive in any kind of snow, turn it off. I was merging on I-690 in central NY after a snowstorm, and the little bit of snow the plow left behind nearly sent me in a tailspin. U probably don't get much in TN, though I'd imagine.

People think it’s a placebo effect but what really sold me was a video of a guy letting his family and friends drive his truck while he was adjusting the settings. Their reactions is what got me to buy one lol

 

Who said it doesn't work? It absolutely works at amplifying/suppressing the throttle signal. In sport mode, its absolutely more responsive...but it doesn't change what it is.

 

average lag i have seen (space between them) is about 50-100miliseconds (less than 1/10th of a sec) between throttle blade vs accelerator pedal. For logging I have those data points scheduled to be logged at 10hz (10x a second or every 100ms). Updated Data from the ecu doesnt come in exactly at the same time so often times you will see what you describe, essentially the throttle pedal started moving down but it was JUST after a data point had been logged and the throttle blade angle was closing got logged.

Needless to say, the image is to show there isnt a lag between pedal and throttle blade.

Forget that, I'd like to get one to @nd4spdbh to try and give feedback! I don't have one but like a bunch here would like to try. How often do they come up for sale used? If i got one cheap I'd try but also heard different tunes can do this and much more. I know nothing of this, just started looking into tuning and it seems overwhelming.

 

Still investigating as good as I can. I looked up the pedal commanders (PC38) on Amazon & checked their reviews. 83% gave 5 stars,7% gave 4 stars, 4% gave 3 stars, 2% gave 2 stars, & 3% gave 1 star. I didn't read all of the 250 + reviews, but tried to read mostly the 1 star, 2 star & 3 star & from the several I read the ones that gave low reviews had problems with the Pedal commander, unit quit working & throttle response went back to normal, Pedal Commander caused their Taco to throw some codes, Could not get help from the Company when they had problems, etc. But even most of the neg. reviews were impressed with what they did until their units started giving problems....Just thought I'd throw that out there.

 

This is why I chose Sprint Booster. I have found them easy to reach and helpful with questions. I've already talked to their engineers and gathered valuable information. From what I can see, they have very few code issues and good reliability. Mostly the people who argue against this device imagine that it won't work, but don't actually have one. It's amazing how many people don't even understand what it is intended to do. It's a very simple concept. I've been an engineer for 45 years, and I was considering doing an in depth review of my SB on a 2007 6spd Tacoma. After reading 7 pages of poo slinging, I think I'll go have a beer instead. I'm happy with my purchase so far.
