I'll tell what I'm doing. This is my safe money - i.e. retirement/fuck you money. I'm looking to grow it well for later life but at the same time the brokerage account portion is available and on deck for the wife and I right now and from now on to act as income replacement when we want to work less/take a break. You can do whatever you want with this info, point is it's intended to grow well but be 'safe enough'.

VTSAX - 55% of core portfolio. Reflects Total US stock market including caps of all sizes.
VTIAX - 20%. Reflects Total International Stock market including mature and emerging markets.
ARKK - 3%. Innovation/Industry Disruption ETF, I believe fully that it will outperform over the next few decades.
ICLN - 2%. Clean Energy ETF. Same rationale as ARKK.
VBTLX - 7.5%. Reflects US Total bond market, mostly medium term high quality bonds.
VTABX - 2.5%. Reflects Total International bond market. Length and quality of bonds varies by country.
GLDM - 5%. Gold. Non-correlated asset and inflation hedge. Helps with rebalancing when some other asset category has a good/bad year.
SGOL - 5%. Gold. Slightly lower expense ratio than GLDM but also slightly less liquid. Same purpose as GLDM.

So essentially you've got 60% US stock with a tilt toward emerging tech and energy, 20% International stock, 10% bonds, and 10% gold. I rebalance whenever any given asset varies from its target by more than 20% categorically. In other words, if I want 10% in gold and am off by 2% or more, I rebalance because 2% is 20% of 10%.

I've been holding the stocks/bonds for over a decade. ARKK, ICLN, and the Gold were all added last February.

    Hit me with questions.

Edited to add: I hold all of this at Vanguard with the exception of my current retirement plan with my employer which of course goes through their custodian AIG/VALIC (yuck). Why Vanguard and not Fidelity/Schwab/Whoever? This is why: https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/110515/who-are-owners-vanguard-group.asp

Because that's what everyone does and every time I've tried that on GME the last week, it's lowered and then I'm now in more. Sooooooo, to the grave we go

Looking at those charts^^ takes some guessing out of it. Then you're left with hope.

Thank you sir for all the great info. Going to research some of em before hand, but just getting some info on some good ones to be able to sink a little long term of my Roth in, separate from my 401

Oh by all means - your holdings need to be stuff you truly believe are the best choices you can make and are comfortable with. Research away.

I hit about 35% overall. Would have seen a lot more growth had I been more aggressive. I was investing evening into three funds and one was up >60%, so in Q3 I decided to put 100% of my contributions into that fund. Can't get much more aggressive without managing myself.

Do ya'll max out your Roths? My employer offers a Roth 401(k) and I put everything into that. With growth like this, I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to be all in on a Roth.

We are in an unprecedented run...even with the covid dip...It's just a blip on the 5 year...
A reasonable return is 6%. A great return is 8-10%....

I understand that. But are you saying that Roth 401(k) vs traditional pre-tax 401(k) is more of a gray-line/personal preference under "normal" circumstances?

If I'm looking at TOS active trader what does the buy order volume tell me?

If there's more volume of buy orders below the price what does that mean?

If there's more volume of buy orders above price what does that mean?

    TIA

That’s more your personal situation and tax brackets. Lower tax bracket, some like to pay the tax now. Higher, some prefer the tax break now. And some just don’t want to pay the taxes in retirement. Whatever works best for each individual

Anyone else in MRNA or considering getting in? I've been thinking of buying more need to quit stalling. Just don't want to see that $55 average change.

Somebody ridicule my plan into the ground and tell me what I'm obviously missing here.

We've been seeing all these stonks that are running 50%+ in a days time, and just watching them over the last week, the ones that tend to run up like that usually dip within a day or two.

What about buying weekly or two week puts towards the end of day on a few of the days highest movers and setting a 10% stop loss. Right at the money or just out of it, nothing wild. Set it and forget it. If it makes money in a couple days, sell and reload on the next high mover.

It feels stupidly simple to catch a trend like this and make money off of it, so there's quite assuredly something obvious I'm missing.
