Due to COVID I have not had truck out on hi-way for a long drive in about a year. Next week I am making a 1400 mi round trip drive with about 1200 on the interstate. I keep up with maintenance so there is no issue there, but I am looking for suggestions regarding fuel additives. I have seen some threads on this, but nothing really on point. So a few questions:
    1. Is it really of any value to add fuel treatment
    2. If it is worthwhile, what type (i.e. fuel injector cleaner vs cat cleaner, vs upper cylinder lubricant if that is just not b.s. is of use)
    3. What about Wallyworld Supertech. I use their oil, but don't know about the other products.

I am hoping that this is not another (what is best oil type thread) so if there is any factual evidence of the efficacy of fuel additives that would be good

If you fuel up with good quality gasoline, you don't need fuel additives. If you use cheap gas, I like:

Fuel additives in general do little and are mostly a waste. There are already additives in gasoline that do the same as the stuff in the bottles. I do use them occasionally for the following reason. The cleaning agent additives in gasoline are minimal. They work fine but supplementing them periodically will help to remove stubborn deposits on valves and injectors and other parts. About very 5000 miles or so I add a can. It’s good long term insurance. Deposits build up inside the engine even with the additives in your gasoline. Using additives periodically will help keep those deposits minimal. Don’t expect to notice a difference when you add a can. But keeping internal engine parts clean will help maintain power, mpg, and a smooth running engine and extend engine life.
Lastly the agent that actually cleans is PEA. The products with the most PEA do the best job of cleaning.

Covid has no effect on vehicles that I know of. Perhaps you meant to say due to your own personal choice you haven't been on the road.

I agree with the other poster--just buy good gas and drive safe. https://toptiergas.com/

Perhaps he said exactly what he meant to say. Meaning that due to situations outside of his control, he hasn't had the opportunities to drive long distances this year. For all you know, he lost his job.

None of that prevents someone from getting on the highway and driving.

Perhaps the next time I post a picture of my spark plugs here, I'll ask whether my #6 cylinder caught covid.

For a variety of reasons sometimes moisture will get in the gas tank. Sitting for long periods of time with large swings in temperature for example can lead to condensation. I've heard that keeping the tank close to full helps reduce the chances.

This, or something like it will help. But it is best put into the gas BEFORE you let it sit for long periods of time. I use this in my generators, ATV's and lawn equipment that doesn't get used on a regular basis. At least during certain times of the year.

I'm a big fan of their blue stuff for my small engines.

Wow, this thread got jacked by a bunch of personal feelings.

To the OP: Just drive, it should be fine by just doing that.

The only thing I might even think about if your going down south at all is to gas up as you return getting into the colder temps to take advantage of the Winter blends.

No Road Trips for me either from the China flu.

All l do before taking a trip is check my tire pressures, all my fluids and give my belts and hoses a quick look.

I agree with the gassing up as you go along. Different climates mean different blends of gas.

If you normally keep up on your maintenance you should be find.

I always pack some extra water and snacks and climate appropriate items to keep me warm. Just in case the unforeseen happens.

Check the airbox in case some critters moved in while the truck sat. Cabin filter too.

Adding fuel additives AFTER the vehicle sits for a long period of time, isn’t too effective.
If I know the fuel is going to sit for a few months, I use 100% gasoline. And sometimes I’ll add Sta-bil.

If I were in your position.
I’d drive the truck how it is, add fuel when I get to 1/2 tank.
    I wouldn’t add any additives.
