Broken glass and trash is right.......and then there was the burnt up car frame that was right in the middle. You hit the nail on the head when you said "hillbilly idiots."

Yeah, that was I think a focus. We had some plans to go in and pull that out but never came to fruition. Was hoping to do that this spring. I went out there to try to get the VIN, some states you need that to scrap it. I don't give a rip about scrap value but some places just won't take it. Someone dumped a set of KO2s out there too w/ the car. Plus there was a fridge near the entrance. A TV or two as well. Plus the usual beer cans and bottles people used for target practice

BUT it was the only wheeling that isn't fire roads within 3 hours of Providence. >:|

Not necessary true my friend. We do have a number of place out here in western MA that I think you would like. Once again.....we keep them secret. Next time we get together in the spring, in a small group for a ride I will let you know. From providence, it is only about 1 hour and 30 minutes from you.

Out near Worcester? I know there's a few things out in western MA. I haven't been out there yet. BUT I will have my sliders going back on this weekend even though they aren't repainted :| and then an IFS skid going on at the end of my road trip in March! SO I will be protected! I'll likely still be on stock tires though. But, when I do get new tires I am going 10 ply eq. There's a chance I get up to Tuktayuktuk next year so I want to be on 10ply eq. for that so might as well.

Not worcester.....I live out in the Springfield area. I can think of at least three decent places to go......and protection or tires isn't absolutely necessary but recommended lol.

Yeah let me know! I'm up for it this year. I'll probably try to spend some time way up north like NE kingdom north, this year though. But that will probably be solo uncoordinated trips.

Sounds about right. That one might not have been pre-meditated, to be fair.

The thing was pretty beat inside. And it was on a perfectly flat section. I think they dumped it and someone else flipped it over on it's side to move it out of the way.

That turns my stomach seeing that. I understand that if it was part of an accident, like it falling off on the trail or something, then go back and figure out a way to take it the fuck out of there. If it was just "dumped" there because someone just wanted to get rid of it........then that person by far is a huge piece of shit. Sorry I am so fired up about this but trail maintenance, trail care, and and learning the do's and don'ts of being out in natural and offroading is very near and dear to my heart.

The problem is that most trails are not on public land aside from the Class 4 and 6 roads of NH and VT. When the trails legality and ownership is already questionable, it lets people think it's free game. They are already trespassing, why not add dumping/littering to the mix. I also feel the north east is full of redneck types and people just in general give less shits about it than they do out west. We found this trashed and abandoned pathfinder on a NH class 6 a couple years ago. Sucks to see it.

We have a spot here on the border of NJ and NY that has a bunch of fun trails. The problem is it's highly illegal and it's been getting shit dumped there since the 50's. Literally old fridges, cars other random garbage has been dragged back there and burned. The one time we found an XJ pushed off the one main cliff.

Not even just trail maintenance. As @cynicalrider said there are just a lot of shitty people doing shitty things in the NE unfortunately. Been a couple of times over the past few decades where people have dumped shit (tires, fridges, even general trash) on the access road to my family camp. Very obvious that that road is for camps only, no wheeling to be had anywhere in that area and all private land, but doesnt stop certain people

As someone who maintained the trails behind my house growing up, you don't have to tell me twice :| sad to see. The trails were fun back there. Nothing too crazy, could have fun and only break your own shit when you were being an idiot :spy:

Goes back to why when there is a public spot for wheeling, people in the northeast are so secretive about it compared to, say, out west where it's public land and everyone makes youtubes there.

Hell, the RI spot - it's on google maps! but you still just knew - don't spout off the addresses on a public forum, do it in private messages etc. It's just the way wheeling up here is, because - well, this kind of crap happens :notsure:

I have seen a lot of Facebook groups causing even more issues like this. Word spreads so goddamn fast on there, new people coming into the scene all the time without being able to educate them properly on spot secrecy fas enough.

Facebook is a hot pile of garbage in general. Seems to bring out the worst in people when it comes to wheeling. Thats all Ill say about that...

Do you know Southern Vemront Offroad Association? Joe, the leader, just basically quit like a week ago. People were being annoying, rides got too busy, etc. Even in the announcement post, people were arguing over a scammed vehicle. It was insane, I don't blame him stepping away one bit

Ugh. Bummer. I had only been there twice. Was itching to go back. People can really suck...

Same thing happened to one of the biggest ATV spots in lower NY: Maybrook / the MTA land / Yellow Freight...whatever you want to call it. It was a huge piece of property that was never really "legal," but was tolerated by locals because it kept kids off the streets at least. Eventually it got overrun with trash, and people got hurt, and that was the end of it. But man, back in its heyday, it was amazing.

thats pretty much this exact spot. There are power lines and a gas line that are private property, it’s all mostly private stuff. There’s one public state park or something like that out to the southern side of it.

regardless. It was basically just that. Tolerated by the locals, I’m sure with some displeasure from some, but overall pretty well whatever.

jeep rolled guy died. Two days later there were a few firearms violations. But it wasn’t reported right away until a few weeks later.

Sounds similar. The first big Maybrook shutdown happened after somebody got a Medivac ride to the nearby hospital after a dirt bike crash. A few other bad ones happened. DEP started patrolling, people kept dumping trash there, land owners got a whiff of it, and squashed the whole thing.
