The remote start is ok, but it sucks that it shuts the engine off when you open the door. I don't like having to start the vehicle multiple times like that, so I'm less inclined to use it. I definitely don't like how Toyota is tracking my driving, and even telling me when I have harsh cornering, braking and switch acceleration. I wonder how that will affect warranty claims down the road? At one point I thought $8/month or $80 per year isn't *bad*, but in the end, none of my other cars have remote start...

My daughter's Jeep Wrangler has remote start, only through the fob, and it is nice when there's ice all over the windows but you have to plan ahead and turn on the defrost before you shut the vehicle off the night before to make it worthwhile. Oh, and Jeep doesn't shut the engine off when you open the door...

Yeah, why not leave it running if the fob is present?!

The remote start on my 2020 turns on the defrost full blast and the heated mirrors. But it doesn't disable the wipers if they were left on.

I can understand the motor turning off when door opened by say a passerby to prevent theft. Has anyone checked to see if the motor stops if you open the door with the key fob on your person?

I did it EXACTLY the way I did it while I had the sub active, does not work. I resubbed, because I find value in the app, and it mysteriously started working agian.. like immediately.

Update: 10 days after my subscription expired and my remote start (fob) still works.

Someone posted earlier that after 2018 Toyota changed connected services to allow the fob to work. I wonder if some of you that are having issues somehow got an older module. Has anyone with a year 2020 visited their dealership with this issue?

    Give it time.

Your remote start feature wont necessarily stop the moment your subscription expires. Mine took a few weeks but it did stop.
Once I resumed my subscription, the remote start on my phone and key fob were both enabled.

My phone also constantly tracks me.

I like the services, I can see my trip history (and if someone borrows my truck and drives it poorly), as well as remote start features. I have heard of some contacting Toyota and receiving discounts or extended trials on the services as well.

Next time your truck updates the entune (think that is what it is called) it will turn it off. Once I reconnected my remote services I had to force the truck to "repair" and update in order to get the Fob working again.

Same process as when you first paired the app to the truck and then it updates.
I cannot remember the steps exactly but the app walks you thru it

Toyota App gives you a code you have to enter into the system then it "calls home" as far as I can tell to reactivate it.
