For a stocker....let's say, just as a matter of maintenance on an aging truck...when you've determined the OEM shocks and leaves done given all they got...who you gonna call?

 

Junk yard for some low mileage replacements

 

3rd gen take offs? Although you'll get a little lift in the front if you replace the coils I think.

 

Bilstein for shocks and I second the 3rd gen take offs

 

Uh oh, maybe I've said too much...

 

It's hard to say. Shocks wear so slowly that you tend to adjust right along with them...not necessarily even realizing they're wearing out.

On a truck with a live axle, like the Tacoma, one sure sign is a skiddish or hoppy rear end when turning on a bumpy road with a bit of speed.

I hope to be replacing mine in the not too distance future. I'm either sticking with the OEM Bilstein 4600s or I might go with some Eibach Pro Truck OE replacements

 

I remember seeing a YouTube video a few years ago, on ChrisFix's channel I believe. He put a go pro on the rearend of a truck so you could see the axle wrap under acceleration and braking. Had before and after replacing the shocks. Pretty neat, I'll see if I can find it.
