that page says (3 times) "52,300 lbs. breaking strength" and 1 time "breaking strength 52,300 lbs."
It doesnt say anything about working strength. "working break strength" isnt a thing.
Working Load Limit is a term used for overhead rigging, and is 1.3 the breaking strength of an item.
52,300 is 1300 more than the Crosby 3/4" shackle test strength, but it still broke 12 tons higher than the claimed 52,300 of the soft shackle.
If I had the money and need I'd probably get a few soft shackles as well, btu I have a bunch of steel, and no need to worry about corners destroying them as you do with the soft.

All of this is almost irrelevant though, as unless you are 100% mired and trying to snatch with static lines, chains, etc, our trucks will never get anywhere near that much force on a recovery item.

I'm not trying to be contrary, I just value the truth, and some people will read a single thread and think it is the end all be all of knowledge on that subject. We call them noobs and/or idiots.
Hopefully they will download and read FM 20-22, then keep it in the truck so they dont break stuff or get hurt when they get stuck.

At any recovery situation there are a lot of variables, if you run your math for every piece of equipment and points/angle of attachment. You will find 9 times out of 10 your winch is the weakest link with its ever changing ratio (line out).
52,300 from a 7/16 rope vs 3/4 pin, when it comes down to it a soft shackle in a failure has a better chance of harming you vs killing you

    {for reference:
    https://www.asroffroad.com/3-4-dia-flex-soft-shackle-mts-137-000-lbs/
    137,000 from 3/4 rope
    Yes synthetic rope is stronger than steel}

Sorry OP now back too mall crawling, D ring bling..... ;)

    The best solution.
    1) weld a short length of chain (the tough square stuff) to the end of the insert. It should be long enough to wrap around the frame under the vehicle.
Simply feed the chain through the hole, wrap and lock with good padlock.

    2) Weld a long elliptical shaped rod to the end long enough to stick out thr back ( with room for plate and lock) make a slotted plate that will fit over the rod. Slide in, put plate on and lock.

I have used both and you can sleep well at night!

Which is why shackles and the trailer hitch pin are in the access door on the driver side. Easy to get to when I need them.

$10 solution I’ve been using for years: go get a locking receiver pin + plus a little Quick Link (to use instead of a padlock that you might lose the key to).

I tighten the quick link with some pliers I keep under my back seat. Makes it hard enough that it keeps bored kids from walking off with it, but still easy to remove when I need to.

It all comes down to just where you live and how often they need to be used .

Around here exposed to the weather and road dirt they will soon be corroded to the point removing them is very frustrating and time consuming standing knee deep in mud you thought was just a little puddle .

If you just need a recovery point for a sling weld them on and be done .

It comes down to those are your tools treat them how you will.

I've found a few shackles laying on the road. Makes me wonder how many of the "stolen" shackles were actually lost. I think it's a very bad idea to leave shackles on the truck. When the shackle falls off it could bounce into another car. If it hits a windshield it could get really bad. Looking cool is just not worth the risk.

To whom does seeing other trucks with shackles dangling about on the road "look cool" to? When I see a truck with shackles/D-rings/etc hanging from the bumper as they drive down the interstate, I just think how dumb that looks. It's like truck nuts. If you needed them, you wouldn't leave them on all the time because you would want them to be there, in good condition, when needed.

I find them on trails fairly often. Saturday I found another, search found it came from Harbor Freight. Pin fit is absolute crap, both diameter and length. I wont be adding it to my collection, probably throw it in the recycle bin

But those rattling things in an ammo can and be done with it. I am that guy with my head hanging out the door when I hear something squeaking under the truck. Maybe that’s just me getting older?

My anti theft device is to not leave them on my bumper when I drive to the grocery store.

Aside from looking hardcore, there is no real reason to have them installed on your recvoery points.

All the extra crap that’s not even designed to be used for vehicle recovery just so you can keep a D ring on all the time. Locks get rusty and break, that special tool you need to remove that non standard bolt is never where you need it WHEN you need it.

Just get a snorkel and an overland rack if you want to look the part.

Most of the people who leave them on will never really need them, so it's ok.

Neighbor and his son have never been offroad and both trucks have bright red shackles hanging from the hitch. Posers.
