Howdy folks, anyone know the type of bolts needed here? Missing one near dip stick, another near the belt. Don't like seeing empty holes where it's important. :anonymous:

Chances are good that the missing bolt on the alternator is the same as the outer two.

There are no missing bolts. Those are the bolt holes they use to lower the engine into the engine bay

I'm pretty sure I'm missing half the clips that keep my grill in place. I've removed the grill like 15 times in the past year. I'm missing 3 clips for my front bumper and 2 for the wheel wells

While I agree, there doesn’t look to be bolts missing (that weren’t once there)
The the picture make it look as if the bolt holes are located with in a plastic structure.
I’m not sure that’s exactly the bolt holes I’d choose to support the weight of an engine.

I think the holes are used on accessories that are not need on the truck.

Those are definitely not used to drop the engine!:frusty:

Remember that these 3.5 aren't only used in our trucks.

Just look at them. They aren't used to anchor anything in the Tacoma.

Probably used for an engine cover on one of the other vehicles the 3.5 is used in.

Auto MFGs make parts common across models to increase production (decrease costs, increase profits) they've been doing this for a couple decades now.
Best bet is wash engine bay, or just shut hood and stop scratching for an itch.

I’m gonna forewarn you.....if you take the engine cover off when you’re tidying things up you’ll prolly find another dozen or so unused bolt holes.
Hope I didn’t come across dickish, you don’t know until you ask!

Alright fellas, I've got this all figured out. Turns out Toyota left them empty for TW users who get to curious haha. Thanks for all the input guys, I'll be enjoying my new engine accessory later on today.
