Well I finally decided to move on from the Taco to a Ford. The family is growing and we needed something bigger. I have enjoyed the Tacoma but the 2.7 and the small cab just wasnt working anymore. You guys have been great for the last 5 years so i will be hanging around. This is the best forum i have ever been a part of. I wish there was a forum for the Fords like this one.

Cool. I've had my eye on one as well. Just curious why you chose the 5.0 over the 3.5 ecoboost?

    Good choice with the 5.0
The eco boost motors are problematic around 100k

I've always preferred Naturally Aspirated engines. All that added complexity comes at a cost down the road.

    not really

only for people who fuck up their turbo
by beating on it before it's warm
    not doing a cooldown
and running coconut oil in the crankcase for 20,000 miles with a Fram filter
which causes you to replace the turbo
I've seen working used ones for $300
not sure how much a rebuild kit is

the complexity usually gives you more power
    including at altitude

Toyota has figured out ways to add complexity without turbos
like their fucked up throwout bearing design

I considered a f150 at one point when truck shopping but a couple issues crossed it off my list. The biggest issue for me was it’s too wide for my driveway. It was something like 3/8” space meaning I’d have to get it perfect every time with 3/16 on each side, too close. The other thing, I didn’t care for the 9 speed transmission. My work had one so I drove it, very strange to me to be in 5th at 40mph or so.

I’m not knocking another person’s decision on vehicle choice and what makes them happy. Believe me, we beat the crap outta that truck, never changed the oil for years at a time, it just kept going. Everyone drove it so it was nobody’s responsibility to maintain it, dumbasses.

If you keep the truck as long as a few of us do. The added complexity of the twin turbos add to expensive repairs and maintenence down the road. Even if one takes extra care of them. High mileage Ecoboosts have extra hardware that needs to be replaced. How many people really would have the confidence to buy a new turbo and replace it, after diagnosing the problem initially?
How many do you think even know about the cooldown required for a turbocharged engine to help with it's longevity ? Almost no one.
For most people though, they would have traded in the vehicle long before they reach that mileage.
My comment was meant for the vast majority of vehicle owners which would not mess with such issues. Not just to yourself
Hence, less complexity the better - for those that keep them along time.
Yes the complexity will usually give you more power. But nothing is free. All that complexity does cost.

As you can see by the slick sly comments, many are loyal to a brand. Toyota for some, Nissan for others, some will only buy domestic. Maybe there are even a few Yugo fanatics.

I’ve owned others, a couple Chevy’s, a Buick grand national (because it was bad ass), a couple Datsun & Nissans. Ever since I got my first Yamaha two stroke twin, I was sold. Been a die hard fan ever since. The one car I still miss is my Supra. I was heartbroken when a jackass in a truck slammed into me.
