You’ll love these things. They last longer than sand paper flap discs too which helps offset the increased price. Just use light pressure and let the disc do the work.

 

Definitely will, thx. I work next to a steel factory and the owner sold me some stuff he had outside really cheap, now I know why. Good thing he's ordering me more at same price that's new.

 

I'd just pressure wash it. That surface rust is easy to wash off.

 

Could also try a wire cup on a grinder, I've had good luck with that and minor surface rust.

I'm using the wire cup. If I can pressure wash it I will, never thought of that. It's not easy knocking the rust off.

 

I typically use wire wheels to get rust off, but they are probably a bit more abrasive than what @EatSleepTacos posted.

 

I really should have knocked off the rust before cutting them up.

 

You should give these discs a shot. I’ve found them to be more efficient than wire wheels and no risk of getting a little stabby stab from needles flying everywhere.

 

I like pressure washing after I'm done. I've got enough dust to deal with.

I also cheat and acid wash it before pressure washing. I like using "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner diluted 50percent.

That works great. The toilet bowl cleaner is cheaper and I don't have to buy a gallon.

Rollbar for an MR2 got reinforced today. People usually don’t understand how much work goes into properly notching and fitting these tubes together but it’s worthwhile to get a solid end result.

 

And the headgear on my 13 year old Miller hood finally crapped out- broken teeth on the adjustment strap so it would flop around if I’m out of position. I followed everyone’s recommendation and ordered the YES hood- should be here tomorrow. And added replacement headgear for the Miller as backup.

 

I hate grinding and the resulting clean up.

 

Anyone have a scribe they like? Been using a sharpie for years and finding myself needing something a little more precise.

I have the same ones and like em

 

I made a magnetic sweeper from the HF magnet and two cheap casters. Works perfect to pick up any stray fuzz around the shop and all the pigtails by the drill press. I made it back when HF used to give the magnets away and scrap tube out of my remnant pile.
