I lost my faith in Evel Knievel when he attempted to jump Snake River Canyon. He pulled the chute almost immediately on launch and failed. I was about 9 or 10 and my Evel action figure and Stunt Cycle were put on the bottom of the toy box, never to arise again.

 

I think that was the jump attempt in Idaho.
I vaguely remember it and thinking it was a weak attempt myself, I was 7 yrs old.
I remember the action figure and stunt cycle, pretty sure I had one too.

Growing up watching Star Trek and the Jetsons, I'd have thought by now we'd be farther advanced in space travel than we are. go into space for 5 years on the "Enterprise", yeah, I'd have to give that some serious thought.
