Morning...well I guess Good Afternoon is in order. Feeling lazy today, but I will have to push through it as I’ve got plenty to do. @dewayne I am blaming you for one of the projects I have to do today...you have a similar version of the tile my wife wanted as a backsplash in the kitchenette downstairs. I’ve been sitting on this project for a while...guess I should just get it done. Hope mine turns out as nice as yours. Stay Well...Stay Safe

OK 50+. im not afraid to say when i know nothing about something. were at my MIL’s to eat for superbowl cause it calls for snow storm tommorow. my FIL pasted almost 3yrs ago. we watched it every year for 35yrs since i dated my wife. he didnt drink so we steamed good Texas brownie shrimp every year. we still go to help MIL deal with a day that brings memories to her like his birthday.,,anyway i put light bulbs in the cellar and found wine he had made. its from 94. question is would it still be good ?she doesnt drink told me to take it all. i got 2 bottles.does homemade wine stay good that long ?F48C46A8-822B-4C16-82EE-0CCEC36F9F8B.jpg

'94 was a premium year for wines. You might have some bottles of vintage that could be worth... oh... two bucks or so. (wink)

When we were going my moms house after she died we found some wine my dad made back in the mid 70s. Some bottles still had good seals. We did open one and tried it. Well, it took your breath away.
    I still have one bottle.

    Crap shoot.

Stored in a cool dark place and the cork is still wet, should be good.

    Open one, taste.

    /\ /\ /\ this.

were they on their sides? if the cork did its job it may still be ok. homemade wines typically dont last over a year or two though - wineries have a more thorough process to make sure their wines last longer.
if you open it and it smells like vinegar its no good. dont even need to bother tasting it at that point.

I don’t know much either, but I do have a friend who makes his own. I texted him and he said that there is three main factors in preservation. First is how well the bottle was sterilized before the wine went into it. The second has to do with adding sulfites to stop the fermentation process and kill the remaining yeast. Finally sealing the bottle is critical so no oxygen gets in to promote bacteria. As others have said storing it in a cool dry place is good. He said that you can smell a bad wine. He also said check the cork for any seepage. Hope that helps. If you need more info let me know and I will shoot him a text.

been sewing all day - haven't done that in a while. so far my back is good. i think it helped that i was up and down all-day - sitting for a few minutes to sew and then up to iron, rinse, repeat. been working on this quilt all winter but i haven't been able to do more than an hour or two at a time before my back decided it was time to stop. i think i worked on it for 6 hours today and will hopefully wrap it up tomorrow.

crock pot full of stew is waiting and cornbread in the oven has 10 minutes to go...

I'm pretty happy about it. I could probably finish the quilt tonight if I kept going but I'm almost afraid to - dont want to push my luck. And its black fabric so I really need daylight to see what I'm doing. As it was I had all the blinds open on a sunny day AND had my overhead lights on as well just to see what I was doing
