I know a guy who was involved in a minor collision while in stop and go traffic on the bridge. His airbags deployed, but his truck was otherwise untouched (plate bumper). As soon as insurance saw he had mods they didn't know about, they said that he had no coverage at all. So, whether it's right or wrong, they would not have to prove the lift to be at fault to negate your coverage.

My wife is still amazed every time I name a friend I have never met IRL, but know from this forum, just from glimpsing a unique feature in my mirror. Major eye rolling goes on, but I think she is secretly impressed that this forum has so much positive energy.

I was just explaining to my GF how I knew you and the small circles of people we know/have interacted with! Yesterday we discussed just this topic.
Is that what we're calling peer pressure now? Positive energy? Lol ;):D

Those are some pretty cool drone shots,
what kind of drone do you have, and does it have " follow me" capability....
I've been thinking of how cool it would be to have a drone follow us into the woods

I can't take credit for them, they are @Canoehead pictures. I was stretched in 10 different directions, trying to setup, cook supper, stop my kids from peeling off all their snowsuits.... that I did not take pictures.

Canoehead should share the beautiful moon pictures he has. it was crazy cool

I have a DJI Mavic Mini, unfortunately it does not have the follow me mode. If I were doing it again, I would definitely try to get one with that feature. They just released a Mavic Mini 2, and I think I read that it does have the follow me mode. It is also supposed to have twice the range and twice the speed. Speed is important because it compensates for wind.

It's relatively easy to fly out in the open, a bit more difficult in the trees though. I tried to do some videos of the truck while the wife drove, but I found that it had trouble sending the signal out through the cab of the truck. I only ever tried it the once though, so it could be a user error as opposed to equipment.

you have a RTT as well correct?
    which one is yours?
as for staying warm.... its a bit of an obsession with me, heat in the winter. If wasn't for the kids I would just bundle up more, change sleeping bags etc.... but with kids ( at least my kids ) they tolerate some discomfort until its just about too late. They would be on the brink of hypothermia before they let me know and then I'd be screwed.

    SO

    1) Mr. Buddy heater. Bass Pro seems to have the best prices. I myself have the little guy that sits on a 1lb bottle of Propane. I bet it would heat your RTT up no problem BUT there is no dial, its either off, or on.
    2) Diesel air heater. This one really interests me. everything is outside, and it blows hot air inside. Most have thermostats so you can set the temperature and stay comfy
    3) portable power box - these are battery's with inverters attached. Pricy IMO.
    A) you can use a 12v heated car blanket
    B) you can use the inverter and a 120V heated blanket
    c) you can use the inverter and a litte 120V space heater
    - Amazon sells little 170/150 Watt "personal" heaters for cheap, or you could get say a 400W one, but you'd have to do the math and see if your portable power box would last all night.
I stubled upon this guy's youtube channel yesterday when I was thinking about all this ( for the 15th time, lol ) and he knows his stuff! he lives in alaska and camps all year around in his teardrop camper with his family. this guy knows how to stay warm

check him out. He's tried lots of different combinations of the stuff I listed above.

Diesel Heater ( I'm leaning towards this method )

hopefully we can winter camp together soon!

I have a funny story about a drone in the woods.....
@Canoehead and I helped out a Canadian film crew film this talk show called, Stuck in a truck with Buck, "Buck" would meet a celebrity at a trail head and let the celebrity drive his Jeep through the trail while he interviewed him. so Canoe was the lead truck ( aka the Ice Breaker ) and I was the rear. I had the producer with me, and he wanted to do some drone stuff. Sure, NP I said. He put it on my hood, launched it and sent it like 100+ Feet in the air.

She was a bit windy that day and once he cleared the tree tops the thing started drifting with the wind. We lost it almost instantly. Being the beautiful scenic place of Elmsdale, NS in the winter, over a dead bunch of trees it was really really hard to figure out where the drone had actually drifted off to. Finally after 10 Min of trying o make the drone " go home" we spotted it. Hovering over a frozen swamp wasteland.

so while the producer kept the sticks cranked over in our direction trying to get the drone to make progress back to us, I started off into the swamp with the idea that once I was under it, he would send it straight down for a landing. This actually worked, and I was able to pluck it out of the air. He never few the drone again that day, lol. Sadly none of the drone footage was used. ( I was wishfull for a little cameo / bloopers clip at the end showing my ugly mug )

The other great part of that day was that Canoe was the un-official 4x4 advisor. If you watch the whole thing you'll see a point where the jeep gets stuck in some ice, When they asked Canoe what to do he calmly replied.
"why don't you just back it out?"

Peter was a real nice guy, and I had a fun day messing around in the woods. i'm pretty sure that was the day my wheel bearings started their decline to replacement. lots of icy water crossings that day.

Mini 2 doesn't do follow me... I've got the phantom 3 standard and was going to buy the mini 2 for the portability but haven't made my final decision yet. Phantom 3 has the follow feature but I've never tried it out lol.

@D2. I have an ironman4x4 rtt. My gf found a winter insulation thing for the rtt runs 300 bucks i think. I cant see myself buying it though since my gf's skin is usually never less than 10000° and could heat up a house lol.

    HA!
ya know, I was going to say something about snuggling up to stay warm, but thought I did not know you well enough.

My wife is the opposite. She's a black hole of heat!! Always has an electric blanket going, sweaters.. etc...

I never thought of an insulation kit for the RTT, I bet it would work decent.

in other news..... the 2G Taco skid plate is into the plasma cutter. Hopefully I'll have something in my hands by the end of the week :fingerscrossed:

    Its so true!
before I had lots of time and no money with my 97 Honda Civic, I would just scour the old lowmotion.org site drooling over the engine swaps, and tech write ups, but never met those people. Within a short period of time joining TW and getting onto the NSBS thread I was having Coffee with @TacoMitch93 @Canoehead & Andrew. I think I"ve met over 1/2 of the active participants in this thread, and hopefully will make that 100% by the Summer.

Definitely a good bunch of people who genuinely want to help each other.
