I'm not the best at telling stories but I'll try:

So I just got into my truck after getting some groceries, didn't even get to take the mask of my face yet when BAM! Some car backed into me super hard.

I get out of my truck and walk over to the driver and immediately see the passenger holding a bong. I sigh and the driver starts apologizing. I look at my bumper and she says I can move my car so you can see the damage and I immediately say no, leave it there. I was too afraid she was gonna take off if I let her do that.

I ask for her insurance and license and I see the insurance card is expired and her Arizona license says it expires in 2066. This girl was 19 and I was afraid if I called the cops she and her friend would get arrested for having weed in the car at 19 years old. I didn't want to ruin their lives. But at the same time I didn't to be fucked over if there was internal damage or whatever. Also what if her license and insurance is fake too?

So I ask for her parents to see if they can come and she says they're in Arizona. So then I asked if they can send the current insurance over. She says they're at work. I insist she call anyways because they're gonna find out anyways if I file a claim. So she finally calls her mom and her mom is like wtf why are you in California, and she tells her mom that she "went off the rails again" I don't even know what that means. Then when they finally stop talking the mom sends the current insurance over immediately. I take a pic of it. The last names match because it was her mom's insurance card and it's not expired so I was like okay.

I then tell her "I don't want to call the cops because I know y'all got stuff in there. I don't want to get you girls in trouble but I also don't want to get screwed over in case there is internal damage." She and her friend start thanking me because I'm sure they realize getting in trouble from their parents is a lot better than getting arrested if I would've called the cops. Then I let them go their way. And that's the story.

ANYWAYS, I have a few questions for you all. So the corner of her bumper hit exactly my hitch super hard. My truck moved a damn good amount. It's not possible to have any frame damage from that right? I'm sure no but I want to make sure because I've heard some stories from people where there's hidden damage from a car hitting their hitch. I'm sure I'm overreacting lol.

Next question is, would y'all have done the same? Some of the plastic is cracked on the bumper but if that's all the damage, I'm not not gonna report it to her insurance. I think this taught her enough of a lesson and I think she learned from it. At least I hope.

I know the pic doesn't show much but I was about lined up with that Mitsubishi suv initially. So my truck moved a good foot or two. She rammed directly into the hitch.

Your truck is most likely fine.

I've been in a similar situation and did the same. You're a good person for not fucking them over on the weed.

    They're still dumb.

That's probably the best place to get hit. If it drives fine then I'd say your okay. My dad always told me horror stories of getting your vehicle pushed while in park, breaking the parking pawl in the transmission and causing very expensive damage. I don't know the specifics on how that works, but I might be concerned with how far it got pushed in park. If you don't notice anything weird then I wouldn't worry about it.

Dented bumper? Hitch get obliterated? Look at the brackets that hold the bumper/hitch onto the frame. If they’re not bent then you might get away with insurance money for a new bumper. I’m sure that’s the only damage you sustained but I’d get it checked out by a collision shop to double check for any unnoticeable damage. How’s your truck driving?

Hmmm, I would have called this the cops. Expired insurance, most likely fake license, and weed..... the weed I can give them an out but the other two, nah. Not sure what lesson you are expecting to teach her.

Your truck is fine. Two young girls learned a lesson. Everyone telling you to call in the Gestapo and nail them to a wall clearly never were teenagers.

Arizona licenses don't expire for 50 years or something like that, so it's probably legit. If it was fake it's probably say she's 23 or something anyway.
I'd get it checked out by a good body shop with a frame rack but you're probably ok.

I've done some stupid stuff when I was younger. Even had a similar situation happen to what you mentioned. Recalling those days, it sounds nice that you are able to emphasize with them, and think about how those events can have ramifications throughout their life.

On the other hand, now that I'm older and have more responsibilities, I look out more for my own interests. If this happened to me and I would have thought that the person would try to screw me over, I wouldn't hesitate to call the police or take other action. Maybe if insurance checked out I could let it go.

Definitely a tough choice. Hope some of that good karma flows your way.

I'm from a smaller town so it really fucks up my judgement of people.

Thanks for verifying that. I was suspicious but who would make a fake ID saying they're 19 ya know?

Yeah I really could've fucked their lives over. But I think that making them fear for 20 minutes straight they were gonna get arrested has scarred them to the point where they become better people. At the very least, I hope that I taught them to never be under the influence of anything while driving. I'd be happy with just that.

I honestly believe what I did taught them more than what some handcuffs would've taught them.

Good for you for keeping your cool. I’ve been in a similar situation, it was just a slight bump as I was reversing into a spot, but the guy was cool about it and even asked if I was okay. I’ll also admit I’ve been on the other side of it and lost my cool for a minute but I eventually let it go, shake hands, and let them go on their way.

Sounds like the girl felt bad. If she was really up to no good why would she stick around? Most would just fly off without a care in the world.

I've been clipped by a 18 wheeler and did very little damage to my back bumper.
These Tacoma's can take a decent bump and not get hurt. FYI most Tacoma bumpers
can be replaced for around $1100 bucks. Take the cash and upgrade to a aftermarket
    bumper. :fistbump:

Looks like zero damage to me. The bumper did it's job. I had a young lady smack me pretty good from behind (she hit the hitch) in a merge lane. She was looking over her left shoulder and thought I had merged. I got out, she was freaked out, took one look, called it good and told her don't worry about it. I wouldn't worry about it or even report it. As for the girls and their dope smoking, I hope they "get back on the rails". Drugs, booze etc... is no way to live your life. We all have to figure it out so I get that part and I hope they do.

I've seen guys in motorcycle accidents with compound fractures say. "My bike! How bad is my bike?" You're discounting the fact that you were rear-ended and may have sustained an injury, an injury that may not manifest for a day or two. It's good that you insisted on valid insurance, you may need it, if not for your truck then for you. Good luck.
