main benefit i feel is wont warp over time, stronger then plastic. Easier to seal and look better IMO. I know a-lot of guys in the vagabond thread suggest it for sealing and helps prevent paint from wearing off along the edges/sides i know i have some spots that the old bed rails and cap moving around rubbed the paint off so now its exposed metal i need to touch up and seal. I look at it like the same way as bed stiffeners just a peace of mind thing for me. I Might be over doing it and still might not 100% work out for this camper, but got them made might as well try for the next guy asking or happens to have replacement caps. Regardless i plan to seal the rails with aluminum tape and RTV sealant and the cubbies. I know there are some rubber gaskets or trim for the tailgate to help with water and dust.

company called http://cpcsdenver.com/ just down the road for me i had them redo my prinsu rack about 3 years ago was one of the pre CBI racks that had the older powder coating. Came out really good never had any white spots or fading so figured i use them again. They primarily do large volume jobs, but will take in side jobs and batch them.

Are you worried about fitment of this area with your new bed rail caps? In particular the tab that hangs down now that you will be approximately 3/4” lower with the new caps.

nope Spencer said its adjustable and or they have a couple different sizes for the different trucks generations. This was part of the redesign. So not worried more worried about the roof. And overhead clearance.

i asked this cause i have a tailgate reinforcement as well

Mornin. I was scheduled for an install date of 15 Feb, but the soonest I could get out to the PNW would be 01 Mar. Not complaining, but I was somewhat planning around the 6 - 8 week time frame, that turned out to be only 4 weeks after the 50% down.

Altogether, for myself, it'll be about a 4.5 month turnaround from start to finish....getting stoked.

Working on a tire holder thingamajig. A half day project is going on day 3. Haven’t welded in 18 years.... it’s not like riding a bike, but I’m getting my groove back. Compressor will go to the right of the tire behind the wheel well, house battery above that and the space above the wheel well will be a catch all cubby. Hopefully wrap up the fab tomorrow.

I was planning on shoving my spare in the same position eventually, although ti was gonna use something more flat and bent or whatever.

Anyone care to share interior pics of their X1 on a second gen. Tacoma? Trying to see if there are any noticeable differences from the third gen. interior. Thanks in advance!
