So I just got a 2021 Tacoma, and right away I want to put some new tires on this thing. Long term I’m going to do a ton to this truck but for now living in Colorado I need something better than the stock tires that came on the truck. Curious if anyone has any experience putting on bigger tires with the stock SR rims. My main concern is that the bigger tires may rub the control arm due to the little bit of positive(?) offset the stock SR rims have. Anybody have any experience or suggestions for tire sizes?

On my stock 16 in steel 16x7 wheels, I put toyo at3 265/70r16 tires on no problem. I have two finger space from the spindle and no body rubbing. I then found fj wheels same size and transferred the tires over.

You may get better answers by offering some data....

What size wheels are on the truck now?
What size tire is currently on the truck?

Your tire selection will be limited by the wheel size and dimensions.

265/70/16 is an optional stock size. They are the same height as the more common tires and about 3/4" wider. You can go to 265/75/16, or 265/70/17 depending on whether you have 16" or 17" wheels. Both of those have nearly identical overall dimensions about 1" taller, and 3/4" wider than stock. That is as big as you can go without modifying the truck and you'll have no issues with the factory wheels.

Unless your truck came with cheap steel wheels there are better things to spend your money on than new wheels. The factory ones are fine.

FYI being in Colorado you should know that bigger tires aren't the ultimate answer. Can do a lot better than stock extremely easily though.

Everyone has covered what sizes you can do without issues.

I am pretty sure 265/75/16 would fit no problem, if you are looking for an over all all terrain tire I would look at the Wrangler DuraTrac.

Best thing to do is to look at the off-road vehicles that live in your area and go with what they’re running. If you can talk to the owners of said vehicle even better. Just a tip I picked up from the mountain biking world and seems to do well with car tires too
