A question for the StL group. Regarding maintenance items, per toyota maintenance manual, the only things ever really being replaced are plugs at I think 60k and 120k. Says to do a couple things with propeller shaft but that’s it other than inspection. When I took it in to Toyota dealer for frame inspection, they told me I needed fluids changed on multiple items due to toyota maintenance schedule, but didn’t. So what really needs to be done and what approximate schedule?
Off-roading is really only a few times a month at most at a friends farm and not towing anything yet.

    Change the oil

I did trans and diff fluids at 50/100k (I’ve got significant towing miles)

    spark plugs at 100k

change the air filters (don’t forget the cabin)

Aside from that, I just put gas in and keep driving

Oil is changed max every 5k. Don’t use synthetic since manual doesn’t recommend. You use synthetic?

so your thoughts is if truck is running fine, no need to do plugs at 50k? Another of the items I watched on YouTube and not warm and fuzzy doing myself.

Installed the aFe filter so good. Haven’t done the cabin filter but will look int that.

    thanks

I’ve run 10k synthetics for a long time

I don’t see a need for plugs at 50. Mine were still fine at 100.

He should just change the oil every time he hits a deer

Some of the synthetics you can supposedly run 20-25k these days which is pretty crazy

I've got all my fluids to do, planned to do them at 50 k, but then It got cold ....

If your emit off roading or towing, @Shellshock 's maintenance plan seems to be fine.

I believe the manuals all say at the 60k interval that fluids should be changed like transmission and differential. as you'll see there are a thousand opinions on this, since you don't use your truck card, if nothing's acting weird or smelling weird then you should be fine. If you have a transmission dipstick, check it. See what the fluid looks like. If it's sort of a clearish light red, you're good to go.

I change my trans fluid when it starts not acting right. In the MT it gets extra notchy. In the AT people get clunks or weird shifting.

My 2009 Highlander 3.5 had synthetic oil changed every 5000 miles, still seized up at 100,000. Toyota wouldn’t honor it as “It wasn’t worked on by the dealer”. I was highly pissed and swore not to buy another Toyota. You can see how far that went. Did write to NHTSB explaining the issue, they asked for receipt for work done. Which was $5000 for a salvage engine, install. That’s as far as that went. When I shopped for the 2018 Tacoma, found that the 3.5 has a lifetime guarantee. So I’ve got to think mine wasn’t the only complaint. And to keep the guarantee valid changing synthetic oil every 10,000 miles is good.
For what it’s worth, when I drove for USF Holland they switched to synthetic oil in the tractors with 80,000 miles between changes. Most of the tractors run 24 hours a day, when the road drivers pull into the yard in the a.m., tractors go out for local use during the day, then road at night, 7 days a week.

I found my guru, Jim at Import Auto on Reavis Barracks. Head gasket needs to be replaced, last water pump repair cut the gasket instead of replacing it, leaks oil. Asked if he wanted replace the rings at that time. “Nope. We open engines at 300,000, cross hatching is still visible on the cylinders.” What I REALLY want is a tach. This being a base model, no tach, no ps. Inflated tires to 40 psi which def helps the steering. Axleboy this week to mount new Falkens and align.
