I tried to install Led lights i purchase from Amazon the 1st one I installed in the map light blew the fuse. I changed the fuse and it shorted out the whole control panel for the sunroof, traction control. Etc. Has anyone else had this happen? Dealership said $600 to repair.

How big of a fuse did you replace the blown one with? Have you done any other mods that may have messed with the wiring?

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
There have been other reports of similar around here. Several times IIRC.

Not sure always with the same lights as you used though, but with LEDs in general.

With the gee-whizz electronics in these trucks Amazon-ese type parts sometimes create Kung Poo.

My bet (on a positive note) is the short was self-inflicted. Rule number 1...disconnect the negative cable from the battery. I put in the bulbs (kit) with no issues, point being is the install is fairly straight forward. No inside information for success aside from the obvious.

    Best on the resolve.

I have some Amazon LED lights in my map and dome lights with no issues. I would guess is you accidentally turned it on while changing the bulbs and shorted something.

Never thought I would have to disconnect the negative cable just to change a map bulb from standard to LED. Learn something new everyday.

From what I’ve read on similar failures here on TW you likely smoked a circuit board trace in the overhead console. If you or someone you know is electronically inclined you could take it down and inspect to see if you find the cause and repair it.
Even with the dome light switches off 12V is still present in the dome light socket and as suggested above I always recommend removal of the negative battery cable or pulling the dome light fuse when replacing the bulb.

You’re not the first this has happened to. Good luck and sorry to hear that happened.
Edit: @caribe makaira I know your familiar with this issue, any advice for the OP?

Thank you so much davidstacoma. That is great to know and I will do that from now on.
You are correct that is what the dealership said. I had no idea how to get my hand on one except thru the dealership. This is my first Tacoma and I have been waiting 30 years to get one.
