Do you have hot water on demand heater or is your hot water made by the boiler which heats your home ? I’m set up so water goes through the softener before it gets to my boiler .

We've got just a standard hot water heater but we're not sure if the water goes through the softener before it feeds or after. We thought about going with an on demand system but the benefit of hot water circulation for our pipes would outweigh the benefit of on demand and you'd sorta get the same effect anyway.

With the wind chill last night one of our pipes froze and gave us a bit of a scare this morning. There isn't much crawl space where it's at and the vent nearby was unfortunately open allowing the wind to go through. Took us a few to thaw it out and make sure everything is as insulated and sealed up as we can make it for the time being.

Is there an easy way we'd be able to tell if the water is going through the softener first or after? This is a totally different set up than our last house.

Can you trace where the well comes into the house? It should go to a pressure tank and then from there it will go to the rest of the house.

You should be able to follow the cold water line to either the softener or HWT.
